T'was all O.K.ed by the F.A.A, who informed the NYC Mayors office but told them not to alert the public!

Who came up with that bright idea to fly a 747 that low over NYC? Idiots.

Yes, and large bowel movements...

You'd think that someone would have thought about perhaps, just perhaps, letting people know what they were doing.. I am actually a bit surprised there weren't some serious panic station accidents..

hmmmmmm.....

Sounds like a good way to test a new anti aircraft system hidden somewhere in New York designed to prevent another 9/11 to me.scratchchin

Large plane and small planes - to test both sizes of aircraft/multiple targets.

Don't tell the people or local government - well you don't want anyone to know you have a defence system if they are going to try it again.

Clearly marked large well known aircraft - gives you a plausible excuse and makes it slightly easier to explain. If it was a EC-135 (are they still flying those?) which are grey and virtually unmarked then you might cause a bigger panic.

But if a plane actually made it to NY it would be too late. Shooting it down isn't exactly going to minimise damage to the local area? So unless they were using some force field or negative magnet so strong it repels planes.........

The most effective use of a defence system is as a deterrent.

If you use it once everyone knows about it so keeping its prescence a secret doesn't make a lot of sense.

So the American politicians do have a sense of humour. I bet the guy who videod that was guitted - would have been worth thousands to CNN if only the plane was being flown by a small puppet frantically yelling 'I kill you'.
