Pandemic flu and Le Mans...just to cheer you up.

Fully sorted, campsite ticket, ACO stand tickets, breakdown cover for the TVR, Euros for the speeding fines - Le Mans visit number 30 here we come...or do we ??
Because I'm involved in these sort of things a word of warning. Any sniff of this Mexican business taking hold in Europe and the first step taken by our lords and masters will be the cancellation of all major sporting events.
So wash your hands, don't sneeze over anyone on the bus and keep your fingers crossed...

I think its only when The W.H.O get the classification to above level 5, there only at level 3 now and have no plans to 'raise it'. Level 6 (the highest level) is when they are on a state of Pandemic outbreak.
Just to ease your minds, W.H.O has never ever been at level 6.

This means its experts believe the virus is showing a sustained ability to pass from human to human, and is able to cause community-level outbreaks."

i've bought the camping pass with white rabbit racing which should the race get cancelled i'll get refunded but if i book the ferry will i get refunded on that?

As of now I do not know of any travel insurance policy that excludes swine fever. For this reason I signed up for my Le Mans related travel insurance the other day so that I will not be subjected to a swine fever exclusion. So if Le Mans is cancelled I'll be claiming!
I would expect swine fever exclusion to become standard in a few days the way the press are dealing with this subject.

I'm doing a lecture on pandemic flu tomorrow and have just amended my Powerpoint presentation to read "a strong possibility" of a flu pandemic - in which case goodbye LM 2009.
On the bright side if the balloon goes up in the next couple of weeks, and assuming a 15 week cycle of disease, we can all meet up at the Silverstone 100K's in the Autumn and exchange stories - unless there is a 2nd phase (quite possible) of pandemic. Amended meeting place would then be the RoC in Beijing - but the Chinese have been known to have some pretty dodgy flu in the past....

If, and it's a pretty big IF IMHO, Le Mans is cancelled in June then I'd imagine the ACO would do all they could to stage the event slightly later in the year once the problem has died down a bit.
Incidentally, to the poster who commented about changing their lecture tomorrow, I'm assuming that's in response to some additional information which you're party to ? It's kind of hard to tell fact from media BS at the moment, so it would be interesting to get an unbiased view of this problem.

This dosen't appear to be the case for the UK; maybe the French think diffrently?
For planning purposes, the presumption should be that the Government is unlikely to recommend a blanket ban on public gatherings. However, informed judgements by the event organiser and/or governing body in conjunction with the regulatory authority may become necessary at the time.
