fuel hose layout help needed urgently
Discussion
right i finally started her up tonight for 3 seconds and had to knock it off as i had fuel pissing out of the back of the fuel pressure regulator.
this is a diagram of how the hoses are attached at the moment. birds eye view.

can some one please check for me how their 4.2 is plumbed up, i need to know by tomorrow so i can get her rolling. if some one could detail where i have gone wrong that will be great help. i have not removed the pressure regulator and it is the the correct way around. large nipple to the back and skinny nipple to the front.
have i got the pressure reg connected wrong?
is the 4 way purge adaptor connected right?
please help its realy annoying me now. i was hoping it would go smooth sailing tonight but i had a few minor issues. (water pouring out of the water rails joins to the heads, so the rails came off o rings cleaned and replaced with a drop of sealer for good measure. then the fuel issue. arrrgggghhh

im amazed at this as i spoke to clivef earlier and he said the same thing but the hose i have isnt long enought but its the one that came from there. ill buy some hose from the motor factors tomorrow and connect it up the right way and hopfully she will run smoothly then.
cheers Tanguero. just couldn't go to bed or even try and sleep with this in my brain, i just keep thinking what i could have done wrong or misconnected etc. i can rest easy tonight now.

If it's the same as a 4.5 there are two metal fuel lines exiting the bulkhead just under the wiper motor. One is the feed from the pump and goes, via a flexible hose, to the fuel cooler. From the other side of the cooler a hose goes to the front of the fuel rail. At the other end of the fuel rail is the regulator. There are two spigots on the regulator. One is left open to atmosphere. The other takes fuel back to the tank via a flexible hose attached to the second metal line under the wiper motor.
If fuel is pouring out the regulator I would suggest the flexible hose from the regulator to the connector under the wiper motor is missing.
I have heard that some early cars have rubber rather than metal hoses running from the engine bay to the tank. I have never seen this.

i have a hose with a 15mm nut on that comes from the centre of the bulkhead that screws onto the back of the fuel rail driver side.(it connects to a metal pipe just past the bulkhead insulation)
i have a hose from the centre of the bulkhead that goes to the fuel cooler.
i have a hose from the fuel cooler to the pressure regulator
i have a hose that runs down the passenger side of the chasis which is connected to the back of the 4 way purge adapter. the side spurs to each banks inlet manifold and the front goes to the oil catch tank.
I have no hoses under the wiper motor or that far over.

can some one explain how my fuel system flows?
does the fuel cooler cool fuel that is returning to the tank?
is this how the fuel system flows? fuel is pumped to the back of the rail and suplies the injectors. the surplus goes to pressure regulator and out via the one hose attached, which then travels to fuel cooler, gets cooled and then goes back to tank?
what is the 4 way purge adaptor for then? any fuel passing this
