I'm about to open negotiations regarding a low mileage VXR8.

Assuming I buy, what is recommended to do to the car? The only thing I think is needed is improved under-sealing?

From postings on here it seems the standard security is very good.

Anything else?

Cheers, Steve

I would get a good few miles into it first to make sure you dont have any foibles.
Mine has been in for indicators, aircond and battery charging.. so far.
If you mod you will find it harder to get things sorted under warranty especially in the driveline.
Once you know its all sorted, then it depends how much power you want. Sort that out first then look into the various options to obtain that power. You should also try to drive a few setups to see which feels best etc.

Rich is right get some miles under your belt then come to our drag race day in may and you can try a few different setups...some go NA power some go Forced induction each has its pros and cons. Either way you probably wont go far wrong if you get a remap to start.

Steve

You need to make it louder!

Standard exhaust is very disappointing.

Are you looking at an LS2 or 3? And I assume that you are going auto?

I agree with the others get some miles on. Then I would start as I did with the Wortec sport pac with electric switch. Its a good starting base and then go on from there as money allows you. Good luck hope the deal goes well for you.

I wouldnt get an exhaust until you know what power levels you want. Exhaust size is important. Standard aftermarkets are not designed for high power. Output will suffer.

Thanks for allyour inputs

This will my every day car (my only car) and too much of the time I'll be stuck in traffic on A1M, M25 and a bit of the M1 (unless my contract isn't renewed, ha ha) Mrs M-J hates any speed or acceleration (she would be happy if I got a Mondeo 1.1 or similar). So certainly at first I'll get used to it as is - the performance will be different to what I'm used to - it had better be!!

I'm not thinking of any performance mods but I am thinking of converting to LPG (I'd pm KJMAC for his experiences, if I could work out how to do that) to reduce the twice weekly fuel pain. Could someone tell me where the spare wheel is or even send me a photo - I'd like to put a toroidal tank in (as I've got to get my slalom ski through the ski hatch 2 or 3 times a week).

I'm also looking to change the spoiler for a boot lip spoiler too, I commented elsewhere about lack of rear vision and the look probably doesn't suit my middle aged, sober, sensible image, ha, ha.

I see that no one has commented about the lack of underbody protection in this thread...

My son went to Santa Pod last year and by the sounds of it its just as cr&p as it was inthe 70's (I was involved in racing a '66 GTO, 389 Goat), still selling rat burgers and flooding bogs. I prsuem the organisation is such that there is hours of waitng around too.

Of course maybe I won't buy the car; time will tell :-)

It depends what you want out of a car. I'm not sure from reading this post that a VXR8 is really for you. Just my personal thought. Probably wrong. I hope you get what you want in the end.

Hi, I have run mine for nearly two years now and if mpg is a major concern get a diesel. You can Lpg them, plenty on here have with the Ro's. The boot is massive, full size spare. Vx did up the underbody protection but you will be lucky to notice it. Rear vison is not a problem when you get used to it, small mirrors and a bloody large A pillar are however............Chris.

Thanks for all you comments - good and those less complimentary. Intention is to re-test drive tomorrow and make an offer.

I can’t see too many customers queuing up to buy these cars in this economic climate – can you lot?

Go for it chap.

Try playing a few dealers off against each other. For instance my local dealer is offering 0% finance over 5 years on ALL models and they have VXR8`s.

You should go out and drive one. Especially if it has the sports exhaust.
But then you'd probably have to buy it. Ah well, moneys there to be spent, and you're only here once!
