E60 530d Sports - pices getting very cheap
Discussion
Just been doing the lunchtime trawl of "possible future car" and was very surprised to see so many 530d Sports at the £10k mark... all had >100k but is that really an issue for these cars?
Kind of thinking that at this sort of milage new CATS might be needed/needing soon? Also what about the Auto box longevity? Clearly a car doing 30k ish a year will be mostly on the M way but there will be a fair amount of congestion/stop start driving done so how long will the box last roughly. ALso when it starts to go what are the options? Is it simply that once it starts to go either sell the car or buy a new gear box?
Any other advice appreciated.

I have noticed since the departure of the P&P PH has been deadly silent.... maybe they took my hint above and went searching for the the cracking deals
In the interest of balance between the internet and real world, do you torment car dealers with endless test drives without ever buying anything ?madou said:

Facepalm
530d auto gets around 28mpg pre facelift.
545i gets around 23mpg.
(now these are the figures I get with my driving, I can get 36mpg from the 530d but then doing the same driving with the 545i returns 30mpg)
60litre tank, so 13 gallons between fill ups.
530d 360 miles @ £1 litre = £60 so 16.5p mile.
545i 300 miles @ 90p litre = £54 so 18p mile.
Why the feck would you buy a diesel???!!
Also so much less to go wrong, no turbos, no swirl flaps, less concern with injectors packing in etc. etc.
Plus it revs properly and sounds like a real car too.

and the fact that one takes 5.5 to get to 60 whilst the dirty one takes 6.6 !545i gets around 23mpg.

however VED is going to be very high on such a vehicle & future depn could be much higher than the equivalent 530d/535d.
You see, I simply don't understand this. A friend of mine has a similar view - he will happily run a pre-2001 Discovery V8 but won't consider anything post-2001 because of "the road tax". Surely if you are happy to pay for insurance, tyres, servicing and, most of all, barrelfulls of fuel, then the road tax is neither here nor there? The only downside I see is the difficulty in selling on later, which doesn't bother me overly as these days I buy "disposable" cars.

Tish and pish, this is what you need: http://www.coopercolchesterbmw.co.uk/usedbmw/view_...I must say that when you actually calculate cost per mile, a derv doesn't necessarily seem the best way to go.

I wouldn't mind being transported to the crem at many leptons in that, when it's my time to go!
