Just curious if anyone's done this?

I have a first generation iPod Video 40Gb, which I don't use much, and a 330Ci with the original 5:4 TV/SatNav (plus controls on the steering wheel) and I'm wondering how feasible it would be to integrate this iPod with the stereo/satnav so that I can control it via the wheel and power it via the car battery rather than off its own iPod battery?

Don't know much about integration, other than what I'd like which is a way to do it without having to replace the stereo.

Thanks,

John

Intravee II along with Alpine KCA420i should do the trick and allow you to control ipod from the nav unit. ; http://www.toysinyourcar.com/acatalog/intravee.htm...

Ah, pricy(ish) then...

An iTrip is the fall-back option - I've seen them for a tenner or less... no steering wheel control but I suppose I could try it out and see how I get on...*

  • though if it compresses the sound horribly I might pass.

Although I don't have the satnav system (only the business radio), I use the DICE Silverline ( www.diceelectronics.com) and found it to be fine.

I'm pretty sure that it can also work via the satnav screen, and the steering wheel controls operate the iPod fine on my car.

At £100 its about half the price of the Intravee solution...

ETA: See this video of it in use with the BMW Nav system

I tried one of them for a bit - given you know enough about it to even worry about sound compression I predict you will hate it !

Burn yourself some MP3 CDs instead - you can do it straight from iTunes and get 100+ tracks per CD. You get the track names up and can use the steering wheel controls. Works well imho and no fiddling around with an iPod/iPhone or whatever.

Will the BMW multichanger (of 2001/53-plate era) play MP3 CDs?

Go search.

I covered this not long ago.

Prices range from 100 - 400

All do pretty much the same thing. Most UI is a tad diff on screens.
