I'm planning to go out and get a lid this weekend. Obviously I want to try anything on before buying it so this means a trip out somewhere.

Other than driving up to Silverstone to go to GPR is anyone aware of a shop in or near Berkshire which has a good selection to choose from?

Can't think of anywhere in Berks... but depending on where in Berks you are, may be slightly quicker going to Merlin at Castle Combe. Not a huge selection though (if you're a cheapskate like me).

Merlin or GPR are the two options if I can't find anywhere more local!

I'm currently planning to pop into Hein-Gericke in Reading to try a couple of Arai lids to see how they are size wise. I'm on the border of an XL or XXL from the Arai size guide and they will order a GP5W for me if I want.

Need to call Merlin and see if they have anything in stock really.

Edit: Just called Merlin and they have both sizes in stock so looks like I'm off to Castle Coombe on Saturday!

Surely most decent bike shops will have a range to try on? Isn't there a bike shop in Twyford? The Yamaha dealerships in Wycombe and Brackley have lots to try on before buying.

That had been the plan with HG in Reading. I want one of the models with the larger visor area though and they don't stock these.

If its a bike lid you are after then oxford road in Reading has a few bike shops- inc I think the H G

There is one little one on the left as you head out of Reading before the HG shop that is tiny but really helpful fellas, got my present lid there last yr, & I prefer to support the small guy if posible rather than a chain, can't think of the name now I'll have a search for a card.

Sorry if it has come across as such, but I am not after a bike lid! That's the whole point!

If castle combe (where I got mine) is too far, I guess there should be something around Silverstone!

There is nowhere in Berks that sells car helmets as far as I could tell. Ended up going to Grand Prix Racewear in Chiswick for mine!
