OK, possibly just overreaction but thought it worth a mention.

Yep, the wife I were talking about it - all the camears seemed carefully positioned so that there were no grandstands in the background and when they showed the stand on the pit straight (normally the most popular at a GP), it looked pretty deserted (no pun intended...).chris_w said:

Yes, but that was supposedly because it was a sensitive testing area and they didn't want the great unwashed seeing anything they shouldn't. Or some such feeble excuse.Actually I think it was because Bernie would be too embarrassed when it came out that the spectator facilities were even more lacking than Silverstone with just some 'hole in the ground' bogs, despite all the money he's spent on the place

It differs throughout the middle east, not all the same.Dubai is different to Iran, for example (Iran w/end is thurs/fri, Dubai is fri/sat from memory)
But that is just a reason for it, it does not excuse it (if you see what I mean). If that's the case, then don't hold the grand prix in a country that will have a poorly attended race. But you can see from the number of grandstands and facilities around the track that attendance was never intended to be anything other than televisual.

The attendant spectator at GP events has figured way down the pecking order in recent years.
It's the circuit that has to recoup it costs of paying Bernie through ticket sales. I wonder of they take insurance out in case something like this happens?
As for Bahrain, nice facility but I heard mention 5,000 people only were there shame it was built in the middle of a desert, drop that into any European country and it would be sold out.
