Hi Bondy, for a start i just want to have alook in a std 5 speed sump , there are lots of info about the 6 speed sump and the 6 speed TDS but there seems to be a lack of info about the 5 speed . if i cannot get a std sump it kills the project !!! if i do get one and things work out it could be a benifit those without a 5 speed TDS who would like one .

Surely the sump is only relevant to the engine i.e 2.5L / 3.0L and makes no difference if it's 5 or 6 speed !

I also think the 2.5/3.0 TDS's are the same?

I know a man who will be removing his std sump and fitting a TDS, but not sure when he plans this.

As far as I know the sump is no different for 5/6 speed.

TDS is the same for 2.5 or 3l, 5 speed or 6 speed, both have a longer pick up but the pick up has a different mounting point depending on 2.5 or 3l. Although standard 2.5 sumps are slightly different from standard 3l sumps. IMHO of course, wink

Been doing some research and according to ford , there can be some variations , like you guys i,m guessing the sumps are the same but i wanted to get a 5 speed engine sump if i can , spoke to Noble and they don,t think !! there is any issues with fitting when it comes to a 5/6 speed box but i did not want to risk there being a problem somewhere further along the line .

We changed one of our customers cars from a 6-speed to a 5-speed - the same sump worked fine for both transmissions, without any modifications. I think the only issue I ran into was that the holes used to bolt the back of the pan to the bellhousing either didn't line up, or needed a spacer to work. Unfortunately, I don't remember which one it was. Either way, though, it wasn't a big deal...

Why did they do that?

Problem is that in the 6-speed, the teeth on the gears in the box are relatively fine - over here in the States, we've seen problems with the teeth shearing off, especially in the higher horsepower cars. Unfortunately, no higher performance parts are available for that gearbox, so we can't really do much besides shot-peening and cryo treating to make it any stronger.

Since the car that it's in has an engine that's been built far beyond the stock AER specs (it actually has the potential to outperform our Darth Vader car), we needed a gearbox that was a bit more robust. So, we started with the 5-speed and built a custom gearbox, using a much stronger gearset, custom ratios, etc., etc., etc.
