Sounds good...how much do these geos cost?

I would have though 80 odd quid was reasonable, so around 120-150 charged by garages?

it must have been way out before then.....its nothing mysterious really....its like driving with bald tyres and putting a new set on and then realising what grip youve been missing wink

...so its always worth a geo-check once per year at least, saying that, once you get used to driving a properly set-up Elise you should be able to tell when it goes out and when it needs doing again smile

/just as an Elise is very sensitive to tyre pressures (unlike some regular cars) its also sensitive to its geometry ...

does anyone recommend one near Bournemouth as would like to get mine done just to make sure its setup correctly. i know the S2 is slightly softer than the S1 that i had before but when pushing on and turning there is a slight area where it feels a little dead and could go either way.

it wasn't like this on the test drive so just wondering whether something was misaligned when they powdercoated the wheels or if i'm just getting used to the car and need to push on a bit more through it.

My new exige wasnt great out of the box and after 9 months I got it done. I could not believe the difference. Wish I had got it done sooner. cheers

yes, often from new they are not perfect as only a certain amount of time is allocated on the production line, so they just get as near as dammit during that time and leave it to the dealer to be thorough on their PDI ...unfortunately some are not as thorough as others frown

It all depends what needs doing and how far down the road to a perfectly set up car you want to go. You could spend £4-500 but if you're not tracking the car (or you're only just starting out on track) then its not worth it. Get the camber and toe set properly and you should notice a big difference if it was out. If you've got the time (and patience!) you can do it yourself.

yeah, it depends on what you have done and their labour rate ...at £100 per hour a days set-up time on some new shocks, with ride height, corner weight, full geo etc could take a day ...you do the maths !

But generally at a lotus specialist with say a £50 p.h. labour rate, then a geo "check" ..."check" being the operative word can be £50 or more....as it obviously takes time to fit the kit on the car and get it on the machine, then get the print out of it all

then they normall tell you what the settings are now, and offer advice and prices to change bits, if they need doing, or if you want them doing by preference (some people have their "own" geo that they prefer)

I know by the time I was about 3 years into Elise ownership, and had settled on a particular tyre/suspension set-up, I knew the settings that worked best for my style and would just have it checked every year ....and it didnt often need much adjustment...which of course is how it should be smile

so in short - its not like going down Kwik fit and having your tracking done for £50 ...the Elise is a full adjustable chassis and needs to go somewhere that knows what they are doing, and costs a lot more as it takes more time to do correctly

PLANS!!! Go - get the geo (absolute bliss, the geo is the best work to get right, transforms the car) then drive the top gear track - even better go on a wednesday and watch the stig throw something around the track. We sneaked into the studio and re-arranged the cool wall (Shhhh). While you are there get Graham to throw some Ohlins at the car, get it corner weighted and then the only limit in the bends is the size of your balls.

BTW, Ben says "hi", soon we are going to have a boys night in town with Ben, Tinkerbell and Just1, you will have to come along - Drunk Ben is the best value in the world....

None at all - I paid for a package to have ohlins fitted and set up, geo'd and corner weighted. I do my best to forget such things (Wife interrogation) but it was around £350 for that lot as far as I remember, not cheap but worth every penny. Corner weighting along with he geo was remarkable.

Nope! But a set of lotus valved ohlins from a 240R were not that expensive. Do not underestimate how much well sorted suspension improves the car. Must work on the moron behind the wheel!
