Ive got a 530d, its done 144,000 on the original turbo and injectors, my step dad owned it for 3 years before i bought it and did 110 motorway commute. It was very well looked after (It MAY have been mapped wink at 50,000 miles ). I always reading up on it and are the Injectors and turbo something that WILL need replacing, or should they last the life of the car?

All the parts on any car is a ticking timebomb if you choose to view it that way. Yes, the turbos will definitely need replacing at some point.

The onky way to avoid this is to buya brandnew car with manuf warranty. Nothing will ever surprise you that way (well, pretty much) however you do have to find the purchase price of the vehicle in the first place.

Why not look at it in the way that you have paid pittance for the car in comparison to its new car price, and that you therefore to have to pay more for maintenance?

Manual, In conclusion its done 144k on the same clutch turbo and injectors, so im expecting it to write itself off some time soon. Nice cry

How much am I looking for each thing so I can tuck a bit away??

Turbo £700
Injectors £900
Clutch £300

Don't worry so much - although one should always have spare cash for a car's maintenance (unless brand new etc) - surely no one really expects a car not to require any work at all outside the standard servicing? Prices will also depend on where you get the work done - so anythign we tell you will be particular to our own experience. IIRC, a Turbo may cost £1150 fitted at BMW - however at a good local indy it may be around what you surmise. Call whoever maintains it now and ask...smile

Think you should be budgeting neaer the £600+ VAT mark fo clutch incl fitting. Injectors... well that depends if yours is a 4 or 6 cylinder... the more you have the more it costs (sam cost per unit).

Turbo - that will be an exchange and really on parts alone your looking at min £600 + vat.

Really if the lot goes at once then you need to look at the rest of the car what is it really like & how long would you keep it vs trading it in against a newer car AUC BMW say with warranty and thus avoid the repairs and have piece of mind. Also consider how much longer you would keep it after doing all that work as it might be cheaper to buy another similar shed and run that till it breaks.

Mr clutch in cardiff quoted £300ish inc fitting and vat, and the bmw place down the road said about £750 for turbo inc fitting exc vat. No idea on the injectors what so ever, its a 6 cylinder though so id assume all 6 would need to be replaced, whats the symptons for worn out injectors?
