Wild food finds...

What's in your foraging basket?
A Dryad's Saddle - an unexpected fungi find while out hunting for kindling wood - it's the size of a tractor seat.

I've picked the smaller, younger one at the top. Fried in butter with a sauce of sour cream and dill, that did nicely for tonight's supper.

That's one thing I'd love to be able to do but it completely scares me.
I've seen many programmes featuring people foraging for fungi and finding the most amazing looking wild mushrooms, cooking them simply, then letting me know how wonderful they taste.
I suppose you really have to know what you're doing (or have a decent book handy) otherwise you'll kill yourself.
I've now bookmarked your blog. T'is interesting!

Good, good. The blog's a bit lean at the mo, however I'll be adding to it, according to the seasons. I'll stick in some links to good books - however there is no substitute for getting out foraging with someone who knows what they are doing. I too would love to be confident of which mushrooms are edible - I went through a phase of walking round the local woodlands and taking pics of the mushrooms then comparing to a website I found but I didn't have the guts to eat any just in case I was wrong.
Is there a "bible" for foragers you would recommend? I am moving to the countryside in a couple of months so would love to know whats what (and where I am moving to is where most recently a lady died from eating the wrong mushroom
!)
