Suzuki Jimny and rust?

Are Jimnys known for rusting on the underside?

Looked at a '99 model - the body was excelent but everything on the underside was seriously corroded, not just surface either - there were huge flakes of metal ready to drop off the sump for example.

If its spent a lot of time up to its wing mirrors in mud, this might explain why it was rusty. Any sign of it being off road abused?
