Test drove the S5 and still prefer the 335i!
Discussion
There was something not quite right about the S5, sure the v8 is nice, but it feels slow compared to the 335i! I dont even like the interior... have to say the Audi salesman has so ****! Hardly spoke to me about the car...
Maybe because the s5 is so so big... felt like a spaceship... Not really that fun to drive!

I've *nearly* bought a 3.0TDI a6, a q7 and an a4, but have always bought the equivalent BMW for the same reasons. Audis may be cheaper, but they generally feel 'dull'.Maybe because the s5 is so so big... felt like a spaceship... Not really that fun to drive!
lol for once i have to say the interior in the S5 was not that nice! the dashboard looked a bit dated... not smooth and flowing...
the dsg auto box was rubbish.. so jerky...
the brakes were good though..
the mpg were poor... in sport mode it achieved 18mpg. not impressed.
the v8 is only good at low speeds.. thats when u can hear it... at high speeds the auto messes up everything...
it was riding on 20" and there was this constant grinding nose above 30mph. i kept telling the sales man... i think he thought i was poor or something... just did not care at all... hardly spoke to me...
anyway... his loss... it confirms to me that the bmw is the better car i reckon... if only it had better quality materials on the interior... not saying they are bad... but... they are okay!

My brother had an S5 for an afternoon and I thought it was a great car. V8 sounded lovely and the interior was spot on. He settled on and RS4 instead which is far superior, but I'm surprised to hear you say the interior looked dated.
On the other hand though, the BMW is a fantasic car. I'm waiting for my one to turn up in June

okay maybe dated was not quite right, but i suppose i expected more.
the S5 has the same type of dash board as a A4, A6, Q7... Surely a grand tourer should be a bit more? The audi quality is however there in bucket loads...
the v8 is lovely when it is allowed to work by the auto, just does not feel as fast as it goes... the auto killed it and i reckon the weight too?
the grinding low freq sound was very odd. the salesman blamed the tyres.. that was him digging his own grave.
oh best of luck with your bmw!

S5 = 1630kg335i 1615kg
Perhapsthe Audi doesn't feel as fast, but performance figures suggest otherwise. Most magazines said it showed a 335 a clean pair of heels. The 4wd in the real world will make it far quicker, especially in poor conditions.
lol prob true... i did like the quartro on my TT.. its quick in the wet...!
personally i like the feel of the 335i over the s5, no matter what reviewers say... a tenth of a second is not really something you notice and in the real world top speeds and 0-60 dont matter...
remap the 335i and the figures will be better then the s5... not that numbers matter too much its what the numbers do in the car that makes the diff ;-)... and there is a huge diff in performance.
both good cars, one costs £5k more then the other and does approx a few mpg less then the other... both well made, the Bm prob better in term build quality... i know the S5 suffers from a few issues... will prob be sorted out shortly!
