Advice to anyone considering driving in a “saintly” manner in order to improve mpg – don’t bother.

On the short trip to work I rarely get better than 15mpg (best 16.9) approx. so I thought I’d try a bit of hypermiling. I failed abjectly.

All that happened was that cars that I would have got past at side roads nipped in front of me, result: had to wait at roundabouts as they scuttled off into the wide blue yonder. So at journey’s end my consumption was worse not better.

It’s obvious that the killer as far as mpg is concerned is waiting at junctions, traffic lights and roundabouts. So I’m off to find that road TG roadtested the Yank muscle-cars on.
