Sky mag cmae through the door this evening so whilst I was opening it so I could throw the paper bit in the recycling bin and the plastic bag in the other bin, an advert drops out for "The first-ever Faberge-inspired Musical Cradle featuring a lifelike miniature doll". I'm being completely honest here, I thought it was a joke. But no, I'm afraid that the item (which "is expected to create high demand from collectors anbd doll-lovers alike" according to the manufacturers) does indeed exist, along with several other, er, pieces, from this company...

Now please, does anyone really, actually buy this stuff? Is there a demand for it in these recession ridden times? Am I missing a trick? Should I be investing? Or should I appear on Dragon's Den with my idea for a musical baby seal pup with flashing eyes set on it's own numbered limited edition seal blubber plinth?

Someone? Anyone?

Isn't this sort of thing to be found the length and breadth of the country in Council Chav st Boxes?

It's beneath contempt. If you honestly think that these sort of trinkets make your home look nicer you need to get a new concept of living.....

yes The way I see it, is that it's for the aspirational 'lower-orders' (Chavs), who think this ste will make their house look classy and dignified.

How wrong they are.....

Now where's my doll-with-a-massive-skirt bog roll cover hehe

"Arrives with a Certificate of Authenticity "

What does that MEAN! that it's real...and they did buy it? Is it because some people just cant belive they were so stupid and question if it really exists on their shelf?

"Elvis Presley Dam Busters Clock Plate of Tutenkhamen" as Viz neatly summed it up.

At uni my flatmate wallpapered our kitchen with the outside back cover of the News of the World magazine which featured all this nonsense every week. The cleaners eventually took them all down on the basis that it presented a fire risk, but I suspect that they were just sick of being patronised by another Guardian reading smug student tosser.

And one for him maybe?

Customers who bought the Heirloom Porcelain Sweet Slumber Collection also bought the following:

"This is an heirloom-quality collectable that actually lights up! With the flick of a switch, the dawn sky illuminates to create a realistic atmosphere. You are advised to reserve your ‘Valiant Dawn’ Stained-Glass Panorama today."

Only £99.96!

Anything that costs less than £50 that lets you pay for it in instalments is clearly for the unemployed.

Most unpleasant.
