Was pleasantly surprised today as i called BMW Customer Services to find out the cost to carry on with a warranty for my 56 plate series 3. Was told there are various permutations, however it can vary from a minimum of £250 to a maximum of £550, as long as its not over 60k miles when it runs out of factory warranty. Which i thought was pretty reasonably when you listen to Porsche or Merc owners having to pay well over £1k for extra warranty. I owned a Golf PD GTi from nearly new and the warranty on that was well over £700 to carry it on and that was over 3 years ago. So i think i shall re-new this one when i get the reminder through from them, gives me piece of mind if the big bits go tit's up.

Has anyone re-newed theirs recently, just wondering if anyone has any feedback worth giving? Or info on costs.

I just purchased a 550 regsitered Jan 2006 with 53k miles on. There are indeed many different options, but the quote for mine for comprehensive cover with 250excess and no breakdown cover was 600 quid.

Its basically an insurance policy now, including an excess for every claim (unless you pay more to factor it out). It has got cheaper this year, after everyone stopped using it when they shoved the price up sharply two years ago!

I took out an extended warranty on my 1er last year - went for full coverage with a 100 pound xs. Haven't had to use it as of yet - car does 25k miles a year so for piece of mind it's worth it.

I pay 37 pounds per month but this also includes full pan-european breakdown / recovery too.

I may well do - they are going to send me details and I will decide later on. I need to get an oil service done first - and wait for the V5/duplicate service book etc.
