Finally I get an Ultima
Discussion
Well after being on this forum for such a long time I finally get an ultima...
After selling my last pride and joy Ive had so many door slammed in my face, with divorce , then redundancy, then a house move from hell and finally its all coming together.
Im travelling down by train on saturday morning to legend cars to collect the silver GTR they have had advertised.... Its just up my street with all the options, wing ,A/c , intrax, rose jointed suspension, storage bins, low floor, 560 HP engine(only 2000 miles old ) etc etc etc but a dash that one day i will have to change as blue and standard dials are not really my thing(well if you dont build from scratch youve got to do something!!!!!...)
So Sunday im not coming to the show and leaving my Peugeot outside on the street , im coming in my toy and finally get to meet you all...So please come and introduce yourselves...
Now a question............do i get a warrenty with the car for £500???? ive had V8;s all my life but not chevy or porsche gearboxes......Realiable????Is it money well spent or best keep into in the rainy day tin just in case..
the number plate will be the first thing to change and soon ill have ROU5H as the plate..............if pc plod doesnt start stopping me again....
Dom
Thanks Dom

Well done Dom, congrats!
They (Legend) look like a decent outfit, but re aftermarket warranties - IMO generally not worth the paper they're written on, if the insurance company is willing to take the risk on it then you can. Besides would Legend really leave you stranded if it broke within the first month? actually think they have to give a one month warranty by law, and if it doesn't break on the way home it probably won't break for a while.

thats the reason i ask... their bill of sale says sold as.....no warranty...
Am i signing away my right to claim if terminal...
To be fair if MSD of other things go then thats normal to me . but if engine knocks after a few weeks ill be annoyed...Part of buying from a dealer(which ive never done before but i liked this car) is you have some sort of comeback.. Im not a trader so its not a trade sale.. either way im looking forward to getting her home...
thanks for welcome

my experience of warranties is that its very important to read what is and is not covered. With my/our recent experiences of SBC's i would take the warranty if the engine is covered. I would also do a compression test as it has been a track warrior!! Tony had only done 1500 miles on his 427 before it died.Am i signing away my right to claim if terminal...

As mentioned above, by law they have to give a minimum 30 day warranty, thats it and it doesnt matter what they put in an agreement to say otherwise.
Only private sellers can offer sold as seen terms, but if they were willing to offer a warranty in the first place, I certainly wouldnt worry.

Well done Dom
, you have bought a proper car there
I have been round the Nordeschleif in that car when Rickability owned it last year and and with a decent driver at the wheel it is a formidable machine I can tell you ( and yes, Richard is a decent driver).
I heard about your trip arround the ring and after beating a load of GT3's they decided to noise test the car......sore loosers the Germans...

Nice to know the car is known......now any advise on that warrenty?? Im a mechanic but dont really want an engine rebuild after 1500 miles???

This engine I think was carefully put together following an AS rebuild aftera problem and although it sounds strong and sweet there is always that chance...However i would not be questioning it if i was buying private as you always take that chance....but this is a dealer and i was under the impression you always had some come back..

Check compressions and oil pressure when hot, its a good start with the SBC's
Warranties are supposed to make profit, for both the sales crew and the warranty outfit. Lots of small print on claims limits, claims authority, excluded items etc etc.
AA/RAC are some of the better ones but still work on a profit basis.
Would be better chipping them down on the basis of no warranty... if the engine seems basically sound that is......as an individual you still have the 28 day cooling-off period with a commercial trader.
