I was looking at an F430 F1 Spider before Christmas but ended up with the sensible option of an AMV8 Roadster.

However, for a number of reasons that wasn't quite me so i sold it this week after 4 months of ownership smile

So now the hunt is on for a replacement and have decided not to spend so much cahs and pay off a bit of the mortgage which has led me to the 360.......

I guess the most scary thing for me is the potential running costs. Have done a bit of a search so have some info but thought I'd clarify a few points.

Will only do about 6K so that's one service each year - is £750 and then £1,500 at an independent a reasonable guesstimate ?

How long do clutches last (probably an F1) ?

What other consumables should I budget for ?

Tyres - 10K ?

Brakes - how much and frequently ?

And lastly (not that it matters) but do they really only do 14mpg on average eek

Am looking to test drive one this coming weekend - also in the frame are a 997 C2S Cab and SL55AMG.

Any advice appreciated

Not to be rude, but there are a lot of threads on this.
Check out www.verdiferrari.biz for an idea of service costs.
MGP is awful, but worth it.

Consumables depend on how hard you use it.
Not driven an F1 but personal choice. I like smashing the lever around the gate.

Having driven both, try and 355 and a 360.

Thanks - the info on servicing very useful.

Based on my lack of consumables use on my 911 I'm led to believe so that should be OK

Phew you had me scraed there for a minute i thought I'd put they'd put be £10K per year.

I'm hoping tyres would last around 10k miles...

As a comparison (although probably not a good one) the tyres on my 911 lasted 18-19K miles, and I never had to change the pads or discs in 36K miles before I sold it on so seem to be relatively light on consumables.

What did you dislike about the AMV8? I rather fancy one now they have more 'horses'.

The fronts maybe, the rears unlikely.

I only had the 4.3 380hp but understand trhe 4.7 420 is only marginally quicker.

I didn't like the woeful throttle repsonse, the overall boat like handling (although I was probably unfairly comparing against the 911). It also didn't feel fast and the build quality was not as good as I expected frown

On the plus side it looked and sounded amazing and the interior was rather nice smile

My understanding from reading posts is that the 4.7 is a lot better, pace wise!

Tyre life depends on type of driving budget for 2 sets of rears to 1 set of fronts. I would think you will get no more than 6k from rears.
On a long run you will get early 20s but local running expect low mpg.
Ball joints are weak point they are not expensive from indi. I had a spider that started life in London and it needed ball joints at 10k I now have a CS that has not yet needed ball joints.
Clutch depends on how driven. Early F1 cars need the ECU updating to get the gear change better.

Thankd for the info.

Will be a combination of town but mostly out of town A road/Motorways.

Only 6K for rears....Oops - I know some with 911's who only got that and were shocked I managed 18K plus on mine....as that's only once a year then I guess not too bad......

Off for a test drive in an '05 car tomorrow although that is stretching the budget completley for me........would rather stick to around £50k for initial purchae if possible.

If you can get 18k out of 911 tyres you will get more than 6k out of 360 tyres if you drive the car like your 911biggrin When I had a 911 it only did about 5-6k on rears.

I saw an advert for a 360 recently (its probably still up on PH) - it had £10k of work done on it in the last service.

ETA: Here's the link to the ad I believe http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/984404.htm

Br d on here has the 430 - he just got quoted £10k for some remidal work but luckily he has got a warranty.

Go in with your eyes open - these are expensive things IF and WHEN things go wrong.

I inspected that car for a customer, he did not buy! very very poor car! I think Hursts charge about double what you would be charged in the UK. If anybody needs further info please contact me direct.

I would certainly be prepared for bills to be coming in.....altough I guess my problem is that in 3.5 years of ownership the only thing that went wrong in my 911 outside of normal consumables was a heated seat element (covered under warranty)

Would service/maintain through an indy to keep the costs down but guess I would need to budget for things to be done......

Test drive this afternoon..............

Looking around at prices there seems to be not a lot of difference betweemn early cars and late cars (c.£10K spread).......

This suggests that later cars are not going to depreciate particularly heavily ?

I'm after a Spider and the diff between an 01 and an 05 seems very small.

I guess the old adage, buy on condition and not price holds true ?

There is one very cheap F1 Spider (low 40's) which seems several thousand under the rest. Not many details on the ad either........

Does anyone have any opinions/knowledge on the 2 below:

I really think that if you need to consider running costs and stuff like that you shouldn't bother buying a ferrari. Its like working out exactly how much your kids will cost before having a baby.
