Anyone booked on the Snetterton day with Opentrack on next Friday, 8 May?

Looks a really good day at only £169. Long treck for me from Devon, but not been to Snetterton before, so looking at giving it a go, anyone else?

Funny I just launched another thread on the same topic!

Planning to be there. Been to Snetterton only once and liked the track very much. Should be great fun!

I did snetterton with Opentrack last december and it was one of the best winter track days i have ever had.

very good track etiquette, no silly long briefings, plenty of track time and free mince pies.

i plan to go if the few places left dont go over the weekendidea

Oh I wouldn't go to Snetterton I've heard it's awful. Furthermore, those Opentrack boys what with their free tuition, free garages, free food and free photography the day will definately be rubbish.

As of yesterday I understand that there are as many as 21 places booked so the track will be crowded. No I'd stay away if I were you.

See you therebiggrin

Before I upset anyone ^^^^^^ my attempt at irony.

  • Black flagged and asked to leave*
Very disappointed that I was black flagged and asked to leave the circuit early today.

Apparently, despite my car having a noise level of 100db on the static test it was about 8db louder than any other car on the track and therefore broke the drive past test. What drive past test I hear you say, there is nothing about this on MSV's website. All they say on their website for noise testing is

"Noise Limits
Brands Hatch Indy, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton
Cars: Saloon & Sports Cars - 105dB(A) measured statically at 0.5metres and 45deg angle, at ¾ maximum rpm"

There was also nothing about a drive past noise test on the organisors terms and conditions (not unsurprising in view of what MSV say).

The guy doing the test said this was introduced during the latter half of last year.

So beware although you pass the static test you may still fail the drive past test and be asked to leave.

All in all a disappointing day.

Well done chaps. Today was the best run Snett trackday I have been to. Very few cars, great standard of driving and the marshalls were first class. Had a great time, top notch fellas.

from MSV site

Drive-by Monitoring

Whilst MSV do not currently impose a drive-by limit at Snetterton, in the interests of ensuring that the spirit of the noise level limits is respected, MSV do monitor drive-by levels using noise meters located around the circuit.

If the results of the drive-by monitoring show that a particular vehicle is generating drive-by sound levels appreciably higher than vehicles with comparable static test results, then MSV staff will notify the participant, and the relevant vehicle shall not be permitted to take further part in the event until the participant has addressed the noise levels generated by their vehicle to bring them within acceptable sound levels.

Further participation in the track day may be precluded if acceptable drive-by limits cannot be achieved at the first drive-by test following the addition of extra silencing.

No race engines may be run before 0830hrs or after 1830hrs.

I could not agree with you more. Shame for the rain in the morning, but it gave me the opportunity to get a few laps on the Focus RS (which is quite a surprise).

I had fun and well done to the organizers...

Top marks day! Amazingly smooth and relaxed organisation, which made up for a great day and no complains of any kind

Just to clarify my earlier post; my disappointment was from my perspective only and I am sure the other participants had a great day and enjoyed themselves.

We were at Snett on Friday, only for the afternoon mind as the truck broke down overnight.....still, makes it all interesting.

I did read somewhere that teh white focus there was being run by Ford, was that right?

We have never heard of drive by readings there either. We had the red radical SR3 and have been caught several times at Castle Coombe on the drive by, to the extent that we don't bother going there. Which car got sent home??

It was the first time I had seen a new Ford GT on a track day, have to say that it looked most impressive!

Ditto, Snetterton is on my to-do list and whilst my car isn't outrageously loud on static so could pass a 100dB test, I would imagine that it's considerably louder on boost.
