Should the Govt not be smart and run two forms of taxation/duty on booze?

Alcohol purchased for consumption of the premisis should be subject to one level and alcohol purchased for consumption on the premisis, ie a pub should be massively lower.

This would sic. ale a struggling industry employing tens of thousands but more importantly stimulate a social entity that is actually extremely important in supporting the basic fabric of a community. Not all of us are Quakers who visit the Village Hall every week to get to know the other people in our community.

You could even go so far as to then reduce that duty further depending on how far away from a Town Centre the pub is, thus assisting the rural businesses. Link the reduction to venue size to ensure you don't get a sudden creation of warehouse bars sprining up.

I like the idea of lower taxation in drinking establishments but that will mean a reduction in revenue for the government. The current government would rather cripple a company for short term gain than assist them to make greater revenue in the future. So I can't see them implementing your otherwise great idea.

Another problem will be in the current healthcare emphasis is, to a lesser or greater extent, that we shouldn't drink or smoke at all. The idea of "moderation" is something that most government medical advisors fail to understand. They only see the burden on the NHS in terms of diseases caused by the two. What they don't realise is the huge psychological burden placed on individuals who cannot find time to relax socially. A burden that can be lifted with the controlled use of drugs and is in almost every society in the world.

So good idea. But the taxes and twisted health ideals will probable cripple it in my opinion.
