April 09 Competition - Winners!
Discussion
A slightly thinner than usual entry thread was somewhat expected with such a specific theme
That said, some excellent work in both threads
- Uriel: I’m surprised you didn’t enter the second of your posts from the Discussion thread, I really liked it
- Nick: What an image! It fitted the Musical theme just as much as the Detail one which shows how versatile one photo can be. I’m sure that will crop up again somewhere and I’ll look forward to seeing how you fit it in there too! There was a stewards enquiry with the time submitted, and I’m sorry – it wasn’t in April.
- Curtisl: It wasnt the most technical photo, but thats not what it was about. You took the bull by the horns and adapted the theme to suit what you had, I liked that.
Onto the winners, in reverse order
In third place, Toastgirl

The Kena can lift spirits or bring sadness just with a slight change in pitch and scale, the player can take you on a journey and you immediately feel their mood. I liked it, the only reason I haven’t put it higher is I felt including sheet music limits the voice to something pre written and decided.
In second place, Roadrunner3

A Tele! Well used by Keith Richards and Muddy Waters, at first I thought this was the Jap copy of the US original. But this one’s a rosewood special, and I believe it's the George Harrison one? It has beautiful tone and sustain, and I can see that in the photo. The only reason this hasn’t gone higher is that I wasn’t quite sure about the perspective and angle but I loved the lighting.
The Winner, Sammy_bibs

Jam packed and jam ready. The pickup selection on the Strat is going to sound great clean with a bit of chorus against the acoustic, the sax will bring in some lovely tone on an epic solo (that’s why it’s in the middle, right?) and the keyboards/synth will add rhythm to anything you want! It’s such a busy photo but that’s perfect, a coming together of lots of sound, and the BW conversion blends everything in. It made me want to listen to Zappa while watching The Commitments, just to see what it was like.
Well done to all, thanks again for the excellent photos!

Threads started (sorry a little slow, the bank holiday is over now so I can settle), just need them to be stickied, decided to go with a different theme as I am sure we already have many shots of sunsets and clouds. I Though the "Light" theme may pose a good idea as it will allow a bit of artistic flair.
As for this competition thanks so much for the win, took me about 30 shots and rearrangements before I was happy with the shot! Was thinking more dire straights when building this photo & yes the sax in the middle as it's such a nice sounding instrument that should be brought out in full flair! But there was some grat shots in there, I liked the two pieces with the music score laid out below.
Anyhow thanks again & will see what we can come up with this month.
