Hi All I originally posted this on the holidays forum but it was suggested I would get a better re3sponse here. I am off to the East Neuk region of Fife next week and I was after any advice or recommendations that you may have. TIA

All along the East Neuk there are a load of lovely fishing villages. Crail, Elie and Anstruther are work a visit. Falkland Palace in Falkland is worth a look too. You can get a boat out to Bass Rock to see the gannet colony there but I am not sure where it goes from or whether it is running yet. Same goes with the Isle of May and Inchcolm Island where there is an old monastery (look up Maid of the Forth for Inchcolm). You can walk across the Forth Road Bridge which gives great views of the Forth Rail Bridge. If you fancy a swim, Burntisland has a good indoor public pool.

There's loads to do - enjoy!

.
Spend some money there - my Dad was an lifeboatmen on west coast , my cousin a secretary (after he retired from being assistant mechanic ) -so it's a worthwhile cause - nearly went out once when crew short ,but refused due to policy of not having father and son on one trip).

There is a track night at Knockhill tonight with Glenrothes Motor Sport Club. £70 to drive and free entry to spectate. 6:00pm to 8:00pm

You could also have a run along the West Sands Beach at St Andrews to re-enact the Chariots of Fire scene smile

And if you time it right and like planes you could have a pause at the far end and watch planes take off/land at Leuchars.

How do you know he is from an area with better roads??.......Fife isn't that bad compaired to other areas, I think its Ayrshire thats actually the worst from recent results!

Some good suggestions so far though!
How about the Knockhill Motor Fair this weekend or the Scottish Deer Centre and Fife Animal Park if you have kids.

Really?
I bought an Alfa GT from Perth a few years back and on the test drive absolutely loved it.
Drove it home to the East Neuk and arrived feeling mildly disorientated due to the constant crashing and banging from either badly repaired roads or ones that were simply full of a sort of washboard effect.
Driving the car around Perth or Dundee areas was a different experience.
I know the car had stiff suspension but it was absolutely no fun to drive around where I lived at the time.

I'm not denying that Fife has some good roads but the ones around the East Neuk are particularly bad.
Strangely, however, one of the smoothest I've discovered anywhere is the backroad from Arncroach to Crail but it's probably only used by about 3 people a day.
Contrast that, if you're ever round that way, with the main coast road from Crail to Cellardyke/Anstruther.

Yeah there was a survey by the AA or somebody quite recently.
Fife was in the middle somewhere for Scotland I'm sure.
I know of a couple of sections on the main roads round that way which have been resurfaced in the past year anyway, and there will be more soon!
I'll try to have a run down that road sometime, I'm often round that way.......and I have an Alfa 147 GTA so similar hard suspension to yours! smile

I saw the news item about the roads. Whichever council was worst the news bods went there and showed a big pothole then the council came along during the day and filled it with sand!!!

I always loved driving the Pittenweem to Colinsurgh to Upper Largo road (avoiding Elie obviously). There's some absolutely fantastic corners on it but whatever you do avoid the middle bit of the Peat Inn to Anstruther road (it starts and finishes at 2 staggered crossroads) unless they've redone it. There were some terrible patches done across the road that were like old fashioned sleeping policemen.

Don't suppose you'd swap your GTA for a Fiat Coupe would you?smile

I quite often travel from Cupar to the East Neuk in a works pool car, and yeah plenty good bits of driving road in that area with a few dodgy junctions!
Its a nice area anyway, lots of car and bike clubs meet there.
Not ready to swap the GTA just yet i'm afraid! smile
