Hi Andy hows it going?

Remember reading somewhere about the diffs making a clonking noise, dont think its to serious a problem though and quite common.prehaps someone could back this up...

My 4.3 does similar - my other car, a Vauxhall, does it too (and has done for 100,000+ miles). Get it checked out if your worried !!

My 500 did this for a while (clonk at the front, squeak at the rear), I lubed up the roll-bar bushes with WD40 and then waxoiled everything, no more squeaks or clonks. You need to assess if the 'clonk' is a 'something's loose' clonk, or a binding bush that releases clonk.

Hope this helps

Could be a loose pad moving in the caliper, which is a trivial problem, or the rear suspension moving under braking, which is potentially much more serious - maybe just a worn bush but could be much worse.

If it happens under very gentle braking, you may be able to reproduce it by putting the handbrake on and rocking the car backwards and forwards. Either way, you're right to be alarmed until you know what the problem is, and if in doubt have a professional look over it for you.
