Usually they fall open as soon as you hit the loud pedal
It's retained by a loft door type catch that should release by pushing the door in, it should then pop out on the spring in the catch, mine is the opposite - opening it is easy, getting the bugger to stay closed is a frustrating experience.
Have you tried Jer, jer, jer, jiggling it a bit ?

just bought a tvr tasmin off the dreaded e.bay
Car is a dream to run on small side-roads , but there is one thing that buggers me.
I can't manage to open the wooden glove box lid - stuoid i know but there you go.
there is no lock on it and i don't want to forceit & break it
Well, that's not a bad 'starter' problem; not so much a problem, more a 'feature'. If you get it open you may never get it to close again. lol!

Will it be worth it for 11p in copper and an empty crisp bag ?

I took mine off last week actually, and it now resides in a kitchen cupboard;
simply because the open (nicely carpeted) open shelf is more useful when on the move. Also saves about a kilo in weight.

Congrats on your new toy anyway.
Hi jan - my girlfriend (Helene) will be beside herself with joy now, not because your glovebox works, but because you are Norwegian. It is hard to explain the 'scream at the top of your voice' excitement such a discovery can create when one Norwegian discovers another - she grew up in Oslo - I suppose there are so few of you it must be like discovering a family member?
Anyway no doubt she will be along later to type Norwegian (at screaming pitch) and say 'hi' (that's Norwegian for 'hi' for all you Brits). We have a 350i (also bought after a bottle of wine, on ebay!) and a Griffith. her other favourite Norwegian TVR owner is Per who lives in the frozen North of your country and is quite insane, having dropped a Corvette engine in his Griff because it wasn't quick enough. It is now. !
