It looks to me like the IIa that Spadge Hopkins built a couple of years ago but re-painted from the original red. The guy who bought it then had to spend a fortune with Doug Smith at MG Motorsport sorting it out. If it is, given my experience of Spadge at Cottage Classics and now Ginetta Heritage, I wouldn't touch it. Ask Doug.
Is it worth it? Well it would cost you a lot more than the asking price to build one like that unless you did it all yourself. On the other hand MKII volkswagen torsion bar suspension is nothing like as good as MKIIIs so it is unlikely to be competitive in FIA events.
BTW does it really mean an 1800cc MGA engine? It should be 1600cc but could have been bored.
I would get a MkIII, but a well sorted MkIII would be a lot more.
