My Clio 172 needs the oil topped up slightly after exerting itself hooning across the finest roads N Wales and the Isle of Man had to offer last month. It only seems to consume oil when I go to Wales. Funny that hehe

Now it currently has Castrol Edge fully synthetic 0W-40 in it, but I don't have any left spare. What I do have is some Elf Ultimate fully synthetic 5W-40 of unknown vintage that came with the car when I bought it. Can I use this? It'll only need a little bit and will only be in the car for another 2k miles/month or two until the next service.

Cheers

I'd say yes. If it's only in there for a short time. And you're not planning on driving in -20c anytime soon....

Pour it into a glass/bottle and make sure its not seperated or anything first, but it will be fine.

Any oil is better that not enough oil.

Although, a litre to top up with will only be about 12 quid or so, Edge Sport is it?

Think it is Edge Sport yes. There is enough oil in it, just not fully topped up as I like to keep it. I know I could just buy some, but I'm lazy plus its an opportunity to use up some of this Elf oil that is just lying around going to waste otherwise.

Thanks for the advice chaps.
