i there all just sold my vxr8 and got me a m3 smg.
the tyres have had it on the back. what size is every one runing thinking of puting 265 35 19" on it or 265 30 19" just to protect the rims a bit or shall just stick with the 255 35 19"

Depends on which tyres you're putting on...for example the Falkans don't do the standard size IIRC

Several different combinations are successful, I would say the most common alternatives are 265/30 rear, 235/35 front (CSL sizes) and 275/30 rear, 245/35 front. If you're keeping the standard size fronts I'm not convinced that the wider rears are the best idea. I've moved on from the M3 but I've ran the Z4M on 19's with 255/35 rear and 245/35 front which worked well. I've just changed the rears to 275/30 so I'll reserve full judgement but so far I'm pleased with that combo.

Bells,I did the same thing a couple of months ago (Ro to SMG), great car but I miss the grunt of the Ro, have just had KW v3 coilovers fitted, the guy who fitted them recommended 15mm/10mm spacers front / rear, so if you are just looking to fill the arches it might be worth investigating.

Well,

following a recommendation on MTorque, I'm now on Falken 452's all round with 235/35 front and 275/30 rear

Must say I'm very impressed so far (about 2000 miles in), they look good (fill the arches very well) and handle extremely well wet and dry.

Given the mileage I'm doing (1k a week) its going to save me a fortune compared to Michelin/Continental (£120 a corner average for the Falkens, almost double for M or C)

Camskill seem about the best price wise for these

No seriously.. I dinged the Ro rims a few times because of the long overhangs, the M3 wheels are in each corner and are much easier to avoid kerbs, Contis also have a rim protector strip (others prob do but I don't have any experiance.)

The Falkens don't have the rim protectors, but given wheel refurbs £50 a wheel and as said above you save £100 a corner on the Falkens against the M's/C's, I'll take the chance!

To the OP, surely 'protecting the rims' isn't part of the equation. Surely tyre size is determined by handling and grip, possibly also cost and wear? Best way to protect rims is not hit kerbs. If you can't avoid a kerb when parking, then you probably shouldn't be driving a performance car anyway!
