The clutch on my mk5 1.25 Fiesta is knackered after 123,000 miles (not bad!), and so it needs changing. Due to me being a bit of a pikey, I don't want to take it to a garage and so my mate's dad's going to do it for me (he does know what he's doing!). Now, what I need to know is what do I need to buy in order for him to fit it? Obviously I need the clutch itself, but I seem to recall hearing something about a 'clutch release bearing' at some point. Do I need one - or anything else - to do it?

Also, anyone have any recommendations of where to pick one up from? The local Ford dealer is probably the obvious choice, but there must be somewhere cheaper?

Thanks a lot!

You can buy 'clutch kits' from LUK Sachs etc that contain everything you need

Been having a look at some on eBay and some come with or without a 'concentric slave cylinder'. Err... what's that? Do I need one? Sorry for the stupid questions - I know nothing about mechanics!

That is the hydraulic cylinder that pushes the clutch when you press the pedal. @125k miles you need to look at it when you/mates dad remove the old one, prone to leaking.

Basically if your keeping the car - change it, if not and it looks OK - leave it.

If its a concentric release bearing slave cylinder it is not recommended to use a pressure bleeder.

Do change the cylinder 9 times out of 10 when their disturbed they leak also if your car has never had a clutch befor it may need a modifyed pipe for the cylinder these are also available from motor factors that do Luk parts and is only about a £10 - £12.
