At least Clarkson likes it. (A tad harsh on the Elise though!)

from watching old clips on youtube he was much better back in the day....

now he needs a car with one button to turn on and drive itself like the bimmer that drove him round the track...

and jesus leave the s2000 alone it always seems to get slagged of...

I do like Clarkson but I would also rate him as cynical as Simon Cowell with regards to keeping himself in the spotlight and, not least, keeping himself in the money.

If you read his stuff or listen to him a lot, you will notice cars he once described as 'marvellous, nothing like it' (and I think the Elise falls into this category) are always trashed later down the line when new models or technology come to the fore.

As we all know, Clarkson too, new models and technology do not always equate to better cars and driving experiences.....but if your livelihood depends upon testing cars, you will play ball.

Clarkson's masterpiece is he does so yet most of us consider him a rebel who only speaks his true mind.

Just as we do Cowell.

Agree with most of that....

review really does not say much, apart from he does not like the sat nav etc.

like to see how you can get 2 set's of gold clubs in the boot too...(unless you have special short ones)

Only 3 stars but I think he was pretty positive about it, saying that as a 2+2 it does work, the performance is good and it's well built and the ride is compliant - what most people want from a 2+2 and don't always expect from a sharper handling Lotus, as most peoples only experience will be with an Elise, which isn't great on crappy roads as standard - so it's good that he pointed that out, considerin gthe market for the Evora.

He is right about earlier Elises though, bits do fall off (got 2 bits of trim to glue back on in mine still), later ones are built a hell of a lot better though (presumably as they were learning from working on the Evora).

Good news that it drives well especially as the looks aren't really growing on me and I've seen it in the flesh - black probably hides things the best. M250/Evora posts just make things worse...!

Looking forward to more press reports and a test drive.

I thought the black pic in the paper looked very nice, looks like black or white are the colours to have to me.

I thought that was a positive review for the Evora. It sounds like Lotus are addressing the area that probably concerns everyone most when it comes to this type of car: interior and general build quality. I have no doubt that the ride and handling will be on true Lotus form.

I am also not 100% sure on the looks but I do agree that it looks pretty good in black.

Didn't appreciate his comments on the Elise - he has definitely liked it in the past. I am pretty sure his wife used to own one so perhaps he had some bad experiences?!?

Finally we get to see one in black and it looks great!

I still don't take much stock on what journalists say about cars when I come to buy one. They (like us) struggle (don't even try) to be impartial. Unfortunately, it probably makes a big difference to how many cars a company sell if a car gets a good or bad write up.

looking forwards to seeing a few on the roads

It does look good in black yes Overall a positive opinion for the new car ... he was open enough to finish his article with the comment that he thought a car of those qualities might be quite a bit more expensive than the actual rrp which given the number of expensive cars that he has access to would be a good sign I think thumbup

As for his comments about the elise, jc's moved on from the elise platform - and whilst he's had fezza's, SL55 amg's and GT40's, the little elise has evolved a bit with better build and a few extra features but not with the same progress that JC's made (and of course he's a lot older, less nimble and will soon be wearing a cardigan with slippers when driving) - so his views on that subject aren't totally unexpected driving

Anyone have any idea of prices, on the road with some decent options?

I've got the price list with options somewhere, I'll dig it out. From memory I think the minimum you could get away with was about 55-57K but I'll check...

Reviews Ok, the car mag pics show its a fugly car!

The dark red looks great. It guess its the silk read that the S4 Esprits used to be done in. Looked very classy on them. The rear shot of the Evora with the Scottish mountains in the background is fantastic.

I saw the Ice blue one on Sunday as I was driving back from Skye - looked pretty cool in the flesh and in that setting!

Every review so far (6-ish) has rated it as a cracker to drive so far, just small detail niggles but behind the wheel it sounds awesome. The weather up here has been very rainy and some of the roads are very crashy but it seems to have coped admirably. Hope to nip along and check them out tomorrow as there're twenty floating about apparently.

Scottish roads and lots of Lotii, I am almost tempted to drive up myself for the weekend, and I live in Oxford..

We were up in Skye last year and the countryside is awesome, what a great area of the world.
