Newton Longville

Hello chaps.

Right we moved up from Welwyn to rent in MK with a view to buying a place to the north of MK in south northants.
BUT! an opportunity may be arising in newton longville to the south west of bletchley.

so does anyone know the village? schools, pubs, chav-rating that sort of thing. overall our first impressions of the village were generally good....

Worked on an industrial estate just outside the village a couple of years ago. Pubs are good but expensive, though one was a Thai restaurant when I was there. Roads tends to have ditches full of cars in the winter. Seemed a decent place but didn't see it late in the evening.

My advice would be find out what the score is with the incinerator BEFORE you put your signature on anything.

They wanted to build one of the largest incinerators in Europe in Newton Longville and I know it was opposed by the locals about five years ago, however, the council kept coming up with ideas to get round the planning permission (smaller incinerator, different type of rubbish would be burned, etc). I don't know what's happening with it now, but it was very much in the news at the time.

DO LOTS OF HOMEWORK and find out if there are still plans in process!! It may be that it is definitely dead and buried, but the last thing you'd want is to find out it's not when the diggers turn up!

The chairman of the company I work for has lived in Newton Longville for the past 15 years. If it was a bad place then there would be no way on gods earth that he would still be there!

My Grandma lived there (although she passed away in 1995), I live in Leighton Buzzard so often pop over there to put flowers on the grave etc.

Very quiet village from what I can see but not a huge amount to do.

If you wanted to get a train you would need to go to MK/Bletchley/LB.

Trains from LB run directly to Euston in about 30 mins.

As mrs trackside said do your homework! There is the large tip near the village, all the rubbish from London goes there now, as stewartby and brogbrough are closed, you may get a whiff now and again!

hmm... i have been wondering where the infamous lakes estate was (i did wonder if it was to do with that ruddy great towerblock in bletchley. so know i know it IS that place.. do you think it's daft to live in possibly the nearest village possible..?! although i don't imagine they leave...

without going in to too many details... if we could get it this place is awesome if you like the sort of thing it is...has great potential.. and a good plot. i have found that people rate the quality of the facilities and that the restaurant has a great reputation. schools seem fine.

so we're down to the tip which is the other side of the village. and which os bigger than i thought it was(!). and this incinerator. and kind of being near bletchley. but it's AVDC so at least it shouldn't be subsumed into MK (perhaps).

other things we saw this weekend were: 1) a bit dear and nouveau riche 2) old but didn't look old and was a semi albeit with 3' of stone between them!

but this one 3) was a really nice unique house on a unique plot... hmmmm!?!?! plus once redecorated/rebathroomed and marketed by strutt&parker would be worth a fair bit (although we'd be buying for the long term).

There are two big tower blocks in Bletchley; one is Stephenson House, next to the bus station in Bletchley, and the other is Mellish Court off Whaddon Way (also Bletchley), both are very very rough and you wouldn't be able to pay me enough to stay in either for one single night without some kind of rocket launcher readily available.

The Lakes Estate is right on the edge of Milton Keynes next to Water Eaton. If you look on Google Maps, it's the area to the south of Bletchley and Fenny Stratford, with the A4146 running below it. There wouldn't be any danger of you accidentally buying a house there because they're dirt cheap and wouldn't have any big enough for you!!!!

There's also a development of 5,400 homes on the cards between Newton Longville and the A421 at Bottledump Roundabout... Bloody huge and will presumably change the character of the village somewhat. Can't remember the name but will post it when I do.

A very harsh and blinkered view of both areas. O/P these areas are not as bad as above, with some very nice houses, areas and people.

Newton Longville is a very nice village but as people have warned above, look into the proposed housing estate and incinerator plans.

I don't think it's a blinkered view. I used to live just up the road from Mellish Court, on Whaddon Way and I work down the road from Stephenson House. I'm basing my opinions on the things I see/have seen.

I don't think it's a blinkered view. I used to live just up the road from Mellish Court, on Whaddon Way and I work down the road from Stephenson House. I'm basing my opinions on the things I see/have seen.

I'm wondering what you saw that would make make you want to carry a rocket launcher round for safety?!!
And where you live now as it must the perfect area to live?

I will admit, that side of Bletchley is not as bad as it once was. I have my reasons for not liking the area. Two of those are having my window smashed outside the shops when i was in the One Stop (or whatver is it now) for less than 5 minutes. The other when me and my Girlfriend were set upon my a group of youths for a Cigarette. I also used to work there and saw a lot of stuff happen. I know that the Police have worked very hard with the people of the Bletchley and have made a difference to the area.

I understand that I have blinkered views of West Bletchley because of these incidents but that is how i feel.

I imagine you live in Bletchley yourself and I understand why you are defending it. But you must have areas of Milton Keynes/Bucks you would rather not visit.

By the way, where i live is pretty perfect for me.

Don't get me wrong it not the perfect area, I jjust thought Mrs T's post was too harsh.
Bletchley, like other estates in MK and other towns across the country has it's good parts and bad parts. But to class Central/West Bletchley as a no-go area is wrong, there are many nice ares.

I don't live in Bletchley but was brought up there and still visit regularly. I know what you mean about having areas you stay away from (we all know which areas these are!) but as I've said before Bletchley should not be one of them. Last post!

That's not what I said. I said Mellish Court and Stephenson House were ROUGH. I stand by that statement.

West Bletchley (Whaddon Way et al) is not bad, but having now been out of the area for over 10 years, I wouldn't want to move back there unless I didn't have much choice, in which case I can easily think of worse places to live.

As for the area directly around Stephenson House and Central Bletchley, I wouldn't live there. Full stop. There are areas outside of that immediate location that I WOULD live in, but again, only if I didn't have other options.

I've been living in a small village for the last nine years, and it's a very different way of life from the places I've lived in Milton Keynes (or London and Hemel Hempstead where I have also lived). I have also had off PH conversations with brisk and we have discussed the type of houses/areas he's already looked at.
