Has anyone who has fitted wider tyres had to grind the inner arch? My tyres just foul the inside of the arch at the top on very bumpy roads now I'm running less camber and damping and before I start 'adjusting' the inner arch with a grinder I thought I'd see if anyone else has had to and if they hit any problems.

Too low - not enough fingers up the wheelarch? hehe Get some stiffer springs you pogo freak tongue outrofl

You can still achieve the spectacle of getting ample jugs to wobble by subtle & sporadic application of the brake pedal evillaugh

Stiffer springs? Nah, the bouncage is perfect for me driving In true TVR style it's worse on the nearside thanks to the asymetrical body smash

Just a thought, can you get to the inside of the arch from the boot? I could press some matting in to build it up before I start taking material off, that's gotta be easier.

Excuse me if it's an obvious question but are the offsets correct?

You will be able to take some off the inner arch but only about a third of the width.. if you take off more you a taking a risk the outter comming away from the inner... I own a body shop so as im not just guessing take it to a local body shop for a quote...Hope this helps

Offsets are perfect, I'm running 265 on the rear. Reducing the rear camber by 1 degree will move the wheel out by 5.39mm at a radius of 320mm and that's the problem for me. I've seen that SP mention that you may or may not need the arches tweaking if you fit their wheels, guess I'm one of the lucky ones smash

I've pulled the boot carpet back and just discovered that there's an inner and an outer, my plan as of now is to push some P38 filler in there and then radius the inside edge.

Although I haven't had the chance to inspect it properly with the wheels off that should give me what I need unless anyone has any better suggestions.

Just another thought, there will be loose/exposed ends, do I need to take any special precautions to weatherproof them or will underseal be sufficient?

I may have to remove the inner skin, I'm not sure if sanding will give me the clearance I need.

Do you have any tips if I have to reprofile it? I'm thinking grind out hole, cover wheel in plastic, packed out with cardboard or similar to create clearance then use it as a temporary mould.

I'm open to suggestions as to the best way forward if I need more clearance.

Just been in garage ti see what you are up against, Havent looked under wheel arch before,, It looks quiet an involved job,I thought they had a lip like every other car BUT no.. If you are going to cut this area away, You need to repair after with Fibre glass matting, Your P38 filler you mentioned earlier is 10 years out of date & as you said it filler that wont flex enough & fall out.. You need proper matting & 2 pack matting agents.. A good body shop would take abour 4 hours to carry this out to a good standard,, If your going to carry this out yourself be carefull. Wear masks goggles & Gloves,,
If you cut cardboard roughly to shape of tyre,, Put chalk along top edge slide card up & it will leave a line on which to start your repair..
Think you a taking on a huge job to fit wider tyres,, Get smaller tyres or different wheels with different offset,,Or is it possible if wheels can be machined inside the seat facing ,where it meets Hub if you dont need to much clearance... HOPE THIS HELPS

It does help, thanks biggrin

Wheels have been on for a year or so but altering the geo by one degree has moved the top out a bit. It's only rubbing in a two inch strip so I've removed the shock and ARB and I'm moving the wheel right up into the arch and turning it then sanding where I can see a rub mark.

I may get enough or it may break through, I'm not sure which way it'll go right now.

If its that small amount.. If you look inside of wheel were the studs come through can this bit be machined on a lathe to take this small amount off..

In true TVR style if I do that it'll probably catch on the chassis when the wheel is at rest on the drivers side. It's about as even as a rustic cottage under there biggrin

Out of interest, are you reducing the camber towards zero front and rear, if so wont this adversly affect tyre performance?

Excuse the dumb-ass question then HRG, but I can't contain myself any longer
Why 265 profile tyres? Wouldn't it just be easier to drop them to 245's ?

Look Pork Boy, this is proper car maintenance, none of this namby pamby take it to the dealer stuff.

At least we don't have to pay £2k for a warranty that's invalidated by paintshield hehe
