....and secondly the cooling fans temperature switch is faulty (currently bypassed so fans run constantly).

Why am I suspicious about this...!? I had one delivered in 24 hours when I needed one.. why advertise a car with this problem when it could be fixed in 10 minutes with the correct part (which I'll wager HHC has loads of in stock)...

..or is there something else amiss...?

Matt.

just thinking how major it could be in the worst case scenario though not exactly rocket science if it is just a problem with the fans, even if its more than an otter switch....

seems a bargain to me, although you can never tell with TVR's until you see them in the flesh. I looked at chims in the 10k mark and they looked good in pics. In the flesh the paintwork was sh*te and the chassis ready to fall apart with one prod of a screwdriver. I ended up paying out for a mint condition one where the paintwork and chassis were like new. Unless an untidy one is an absolute bargain, I dont think they represent good value for money.

I thought 10-11K was about right for an average condition Chim 400?

Yep. A look through PH classifieds reveals plenty of choice if you have £10K for a Chimp. At auction you'd want it for eight.

an average v early chim maybe for 10k - 11k. For good or A1 you would be looking at 11k+.

1. To make the current S owners even more depressed about falling prices.
2. A plot to encourage S owners over to the very dark side.
3. A simple error that can be rectified with a thread move.

S owners are different how many Chims out there?

Not exactly hens teeth are they?

If memory serves there are just a couple of thousands S series produced....ever!

that gives this groovy old motor more Kudos IMHO than the more recent models....

ha ha. Backlash, nah, such a predictable post. The usual "the S is better cos its rarer, more classic etc etc".

To be honest, in my neck of the woods i see almost as many S's as I do chims, neither are particularly common.

The 2 cars cannot be compared, completely different. The S is fantastic and for the money I dont think you can do better. But given the option, how many S owners would change for a newer Tiv if it wouldnt cost them a bean...

Dont get me wrong, i rate the S very highly and would highly recommend them to anyone who asked. But if someone said "i have £15k to spend on a Tiv", I cant see myself saying "buy an S and spend the rest on a holiday".

The 2 are chalk and cheese.

You would like to think that I'm sure, but even yours must be coming down quite a bit by now.

Anyway, what's with all this nitpicking Shnozz? I did say 10-11K and it is an early one(ish). Is 11kplus that much different, assuming this is a very good condition one, of course?

If prices carry on like this, then you should be able to trade in your common chim to buy back your old rare S, with a bit of cash too of course.

Did like the look of that 15K Griff though. How long 'til they break the 10K barrier, do you think?

lol. I dont do depreciation any more. I swapped that for expensive maintenance costs a few years back. Prices of early Chims will hold firm around £10k, aside from a few tatty ones. S prices have held in the £5500 - £7k bracket since the day I started looking at them. Griff prices have also held at £12k - £15k for early ones and same thing applies. IMHO these cars will all hold their prices at that level for some time. Great news for all of us then...

SP6 engined cars seem to scare people and prices of those are continually falling heavily it seems.

not nitpicking, just trying to be helpful by giving my experience when i was looking - be prepared to find a not so perfect car if looking at £10k. Dont buy a tatty one if you are paying £13k....

and why would i want another S, my friends at the golf club would be upset...

Not sold yet.. still, its only listed on here, and as the builders haven't even bothered to start the extension yet, then I don't need to shift it in a hurry..
