Hi all! The search continues for my first Fezza....went out today to have a look at a 348TB. A very nice car, excellent service history, very smooth engine, perfectly balanced steering, overall in very good condition.

However, as always with older cars there are a few issues that will need looking at...some short term, others longer term.

I'm very happy to work on the car myself for the smaller things but I'd appreciate it if people could put down their experiences/knowledge on how much it could cost for each item. List is as follows:

1. Passenger side mirror - underside colour coded cover is missing.
2. Wiring of passenger side must be playing up...it works but not coordinated with controller...guessing a simple home re-wire should resolve.
3. Both rear tyres need replacing.
4. Insulation sheet/quilt on engine cover needs replacing.
5. Drivers side fog light is cracked (I've heard these can be expensive).
6. Slight bubbling on inner lip of rear wheel arches
7. Bubble corrosion on middle of drivers door sill - about the size of a 10pence piece, could this cause structural issues or can it simply be taken back to good metal then repaired/painted.
8. Usual problem of rattly windows, drivers side does not work.

I know these cars can be expensive on parts but it has had the vital cambelt done ...photo documented and serviced this month!

Thanks in advance,

D

I'll be honest and mention that I know less than zero about most Ferraris...

but, maybe it might help if you were to change your PistonHeads name so it doesn't look like you are interested in Lamborghinis in some way...

just a thought and hth!

Wow, I'm really amazed at the replies here, looks like nobody wants to help you! Or maybe it's because you called their pride and joy a "Fezza"?

Here's some advice from me for what it's worth. I would steer clear of any car in this league that needs any work at all. If you can't afford a pristine example save up until you can. I have owned plenty of potential money pits and have avoided burying myself alive by buying the best examples I can afford.

Anyway this link may help you with parts prices to prepare you for when you buy one: (enter the model and select the parts required) http://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/

Just don't call them Fezzas!!!

Someone call smile

Sorry, the Ferrari boys must have had the weekend off.

From what you have said, and I will be totally honest with you, I would think twice about buying the car unless it was very keenly priced. Too many things that should be sorted on a looked after cherished car.

Yes, the fog lights can be expensive as they are not readily available, £200 or maybe even more these days. Wiring can probably be an easy fix and slow windows are not uncommon, a completely dead one may mean a new motor. I don't know the cost on those but try Eurospares.

Slight body corrosion or bubbling SHOULD not be a major issue, but you can also find a lot of 348s with no corrosion problem at all.

More details or pictures and price of car would help people give a better opinion.

Sounds like one to avoid unless the price is irresistably attractive.

I know it sounds like a long list but these are the only faults. Otherwise the car is in really good condition. However looking at eurospares a new door mirror-which may be the only option is a staggering £2200!

The term Fezza might upset owners??? Really? Maybe that should relax a litle and just enjoy their P&J! Must be why there is such a negative attitude towards them. LOL. ;o)

There's an awful lot of receipts and photos of work that has been carried out....the last guy recently spent 2k on a complete overhaul of the AC system.

How can you tell? Some expensive problems may only come to light after a month or two of ownership. If the car's at a dealer do you think they'll point out everything that's wrong in order to lose the sale? If it's in private ownership the responsibility for finding anything and everything pretty much rests with the buyer.

This sounds like an unloved example - according to the iceberg theory of car buying there may well be plenty more wrong with it.

How much is it being sold for?? mileage age etc. If the price is low enough and you are prepared to put the time and effort in (or are after a little project) then it could be ok. From personal experience even the little items require hunting around to locate.

Ok...easy decision...car needs too much doing to it; especially as the dealer has stuck 2k on it since I viewed yesterday. I called him today to tell him it needed about 4k spending on it and mentioned the price hike...which he gave me the usual 'there's been alot of interest in the car' .....so I laughed and said I'll leave it to one of them to buy it then.

Ferrari or Maserati, Laborghini or Bugatti, even Porsche too wink surely it's difficult to find anything much from these marques that could qualify as crap. Posts on PH maybe but not the supercars, these fine cars embody excellence / achievement / high performance and give elitism generally the good name it deserves. In these days of political incompetence and widespread dumbed down mediocrity, such marques are a veritable oasis.

...so speaks a very erudite and knowledgeable Ferrari and Porsche owner who is also a Member of LCUK ... yes ... afternoon Bernard!

'The world' as dictated by governments (especially in the UK) is so set against cars like ALL of ours or any of those to which we aspire that I can just hear the likes of Gobbon Broon, Alastair Slugbrow and Millipede chuckling over their (tax payer subsidised) drinks and (tax payer subsidised) food on their (tax payer subsidised) flights to another (tax payer subsidised) meeting to discuss how those nuisances who actually like cars can be further marginalised and financially damaged whilst we squabble amongst ourselves.

I've resolved never to rise to anymore anti-Lamborghini nonsense, since it always ends in a bit of a ruckus and hullabaloo (and that's twice I've used that word in the last week or so, coo...) and the only way the cause of the motoring enthusiast of any kind can survive is if we begin by not doing our best to kill ourselves off in the first place...

In short, when all Porrarrighinis and any Motosakiondatis are banned and we are allowed only 'public' transport, those who seek only to do such restricting will have successfully ended over a hundred years of personal liberties which still allow us ALL to go where we want, when we want and how we want...

Personally speaking, I'm heading up to Scotland for the Motorfair at Knockhill this weekend... it's an easy going venue where people in general are grateful for the opportunity to see the kind of car we all adore and where even the kind of car we just use for that good old 'getting from A to B' gets appreciated as well...

I've never met anyone up there who makes any effort to denigrate a Lamborghini or a Porsche or a Ferrari or even (like last year) this very pristine little Honda from the 1960s, seen here:

it was just lovely and sounded great as well!!

Sounds like a very ruff one you found there.

If there is rust around the wheel wells, I would suspect it to be other were too.

And you are aright the front lights are very expensive, AND VERY hard to find.

I just put my 348 TB up for sale, but it a tab for money than this one, I belive you get what you pay for.

If you are interested in nice 348, with full service and all done last years, shoot an email: kysminstrat @ hotmail.com
