Hi all. I am looking to upgrade my bike in the next few months and am not an expert. I was wondering what you guys would recommend for me.

I'm 6ft1 and 14 stone if that makes any difference.
I use the bike to commute, 8 miles a day and it has to go on the train.
I also do a fair bit of off road riding but nothing crazy (read no massive jumps or need for serious mud plugging tyres)
I do about 2000 miles a year on it so something that does not need lots spent to keep it running.
Preferably around £500 may be able to stretch slightly.

I dont mind buying an 08 spec bike if these will be much cheaper for something better.

Thanks

How about a sport hybrid like the cannondale bad boy? It comes with slicks (for the quick road stuff)but just buy a set of thicker tyres for off road and if you dont actually climb mountains just get the single speed. I got the 09 version recently for £699. For your size id suggest the XL frame.

I looked at the Bad Boy last week, but plumped for this instead..

£300 less, but i don't think £300 less in quality. Maybe the Cannondale name is worth a couple of hundred! Anyway, i'm liking it and it flies along on my way to work!

Anything with some form of suspension too as I generally use rough routes when I'm off road. It was probably confusing In my op. I mean I dont need a full on downhill spec bike but something that is competant on the rough stuff.
Am I asking too much for too small a price?

Carerra Vulcan seems good value and the mags really liked it. Can you take no folding bikes on the trains you commute on?

Yeah I can take my non folding bike on the train. Thats why I dont want anything too expensive they tend to get bashed around by other commuters puting their bikes on.

£400 bike to get to the station and back and a £100 bike left at the station you commute to?

Would rather just buy the one and use it everywhere. Sometimes go for a ride after work before coming home so want the good suspension, brakes etc with me at all times.
