Damian Green: Putting pressure on the Government over speed cameras

Shadow Transport Secretary Damian Green will be increasing the pressure on the Government over the positioning of speed cameras when Parliament returns on Wednesday. Mr Green will be asking Alistair Darling a series of questions about the secrecy surrounding the speed camera partnerships, and the money they make from fines.

Mr Green commented, “These partnerships are taking more than £100m a year from speed camera fines but seem to be a lot better at making money than at making our roads safer. The number of speed cameras has increased four-fold since 1997 but the number of deaths has remained static.”

Durham is the only police area without fixed speed cameras and the accident rate there is a third lower than the national average.

He continued, “Conservatives would put speed cameras only on the most dangerous roads where they would save lives. We will also abolish the revenue-sharing partnerships which allows people to take revenue from speed cameras and use it for other purposes.”

OMG they are going to continue the drive for the motorist vote that IDS started - it's the easy way to mobilize a big section of voters and the media is already getting their weight behind the anti-scamera partnership campaign.

I feel vindicated, all those arguments that I've put forward to Scamera Partnerships, emails to my MP , the papers, trying to reason with the moronic Vicky Cann seem to be worth it. 'You only have yourself to blame' , 'cameras save lives' 'it's not about revenue generation'

A bad week.

And long may it continue.
The tide has finally turned against you greedy scammers.
The national press are asking the very same questions that the ordinary motorist has been asking for some time now.
I wonder if youll still be in this job after the end of next year?
Multiple articles in the papers, on the news, all saying what we already knew: Your cameras are a sham! Youre "scamera" partnership is also a sham! Your chief constable Brunstrom is the biggest muppet ever to hold that office! Oh my word!
Shhhhhh.....hear that? Its the winds of change.......

Id like to take this opportunity to wish you a very unhappy Christmas, all the "arrive deprived" staff also, and especially Mr "Dick" Brunstrom for being so stupid, and trying to turn us all into crims.
Finally, id like to give you this link, (click it if you dare) and hope youll find it as funny and as true as we all know it to be.

What a bunch of numpties these scamera b'stards are.

The sooner they are exposed as the complete sham laden, anti-motorist cash-generators which benefit no-one but the companies which run them the better.

Full marks to the fella with his p!sstake website.

Sorry for joining in the but they make me want to .

Incidentally, someone's pulled one of these cash machines over in Tunbridge Wells where I'm from... ...must try to get a pic this weekend as it never fails to make me laugh when I drive past it.

What we need is an opposition party that will honour pre-election pledges (oh look...a flying pig)!
It doesn't matter who you vote for...the government always get in

They've also tabled an early day motion on this issue citing the Autocar/RAC Statistics on Speed Cameras and Road Safety. See my post on this here:
