Just wondering how tunable is the Cooper D's engine? Does anyone sell chips/maps for it and is it worth it??

I know the VW 1.9 Tdi was good for 190-200hp with little effort. Can the little 1.6 be taken to around 160hp and rival a Cooper S??

Thanks smile

I hear DMS can bring it up to around 134bhp and 340Nm.

I'll be taking mine there once it's loosened up a bit.

If you want a hot diesel MINI it might be worth waiting for a bit - apparently the Oxford boys shoehorned a BMW 2.0 litre lump into one and intend to make it production reality. Probably detuned to 150 bhp or so, but there's nowt holding one back from returning it to the full fat 177 or more - or even going for the 123d biturbo set up (might be a challenge depending on underbonnet space, by the sounds of it the BMW engine will be installed a couple of inches futher towards the firewall for weight distribution reasons though so who knows...).

Hi, we get 25bhp and 40nm torque out of the 1.6d. transforms the mini and makes it better on fuel as well...

Its only a 1.6 so won't tune as well as a 1.9. From what I have seen most tuning companies claim they can incrase them to between 130 and 140 bhp, so not really up there with the Cooper S.

Angeltuning claim an increase of 30BHP and 45lb/ft. - It's the same engine as in my Citroen C4, and I've heard the remap is well worth it based on other C4 owners' experiences. I intend to have mine done when I have some spare cash!

It should be great in the Mini - we have a 2008 Cooper D and even as standard it's still not as slow as the "diesel" tag suggests.driving
