The OH Seat Leon 2.0 TDi developed a symtom like a mis-fire just before the last service (it's second one). As a side, the oil was checked regularly, and has never needed topping up between services. A result of the "misfire" was that it used to throw a little blue smoke out on hard acceleration.

At the service (in Jan this year), they found a leaking [oil??] turbo pipe. Replaced under warranty. The misfire went away all good. About a month after the service, the same symptom returned. Got it checked over, nothing found.

The other day the OH went to start it, and it wouldn't. I checked the oil, and it was just registering on the bottom of the dipstick. Topped it up, all OK. But it's used 1.5 litres in about 3000 miles.

Called the dealer again, told him the history. His response was that the car can use up to 1 litre in 1000km (as per handbook). Though I agreed, I said that it's a bit of a coincidense that the symptom from before has returned, and we've lost most the oil in a car that never used to use any to speak of. Again he quoted the handbook line of 1 litre/1000km. mad

Car back in today for checking again. So we'll see.

If you really want to be spoken to like you're stupid try going in and asking for any component for an Audi Quattro. I've been told flatly that the car doesn't exist, or has a four cylinder 1.8, or has an " aftermarket bodykit they no longer supply".

A friend of mine is currently shopping for a New A3, and Stratford Audi have point blankly refused to sell a vehicle as they do not believe other quotes and would rather not sell at any suggested discounts

Well the car is back, and guess what? Nothing found!. So it's gone from requiring 0 litres/10K miles to requiring 3 litres/10K miles. mad in one service!

I think that consumption is still within what VAG call acceptable.

SO does it still have the misfire??

Is it only on full throttle at high rpm

When you say it wouldn't start, do you mean it was turning over and wouldnt fire, or it wouldnt turn over??

I think it sounds like injector seals to me, very common of the twin cam 2.0TDI engines in A3/A4 if thats the same engine in your seat, could be that.

If you know how, you can look in the fuel filter for evidence of engine oil, thats a tell tail sign of injector seal problems.

Yep, it's the 2.0 twin cam. The misfite is intermittant, and on full throttle it smokes, mainly black, but occasionhally a little blue, but not excessive.

It was turning over no probs. When I tried it, the oil light started flashing, and it made a beep-beep noise. That's when I checked the oil, and put 1 litre in, and it worked straightway.

Where's the fuel filter, and what do I look for? Is it a disassemble job? sounds feasible that this could be the issue. Cheers.

Update:
Well the intermittant misfire continued, and it went for another service yesterday. Guess what they found - yep a leaking oil pipe top the turbo just like we suspected.

Dont think they relayed the technicians findings to you very well either. I suspect it was a boost pipe, for the turbo leaking. (a boost pipe will leak a litle oil) And this will cause hesitation and black smoke from the exhaust.

The oil pipes on the turbo, while important, would not effect the running of the engine at all.

Yes there was quite a lot of black smoke for a modern diesel. Thanks for that.
