Hi,

I've had my MK4 Fiesta for just over a month (first car, really chuffed with it), and have finally got round to ordering a fitting kit to put the CD player in that I've had sat around for months.

I know that the sound quality of the existing Ford speakers won't be up to much with the new head unit so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some decent quality, reasonably priced, direct replacements for the Ford units? Will I need to do front and back or will one or the other do? I've no desire to have huge subs/amps/speakers in my boot or anything, I'm just looking for something to do my CD player justice.

IMO without even a compact sub/amp setup, you'll struggle to achieve any bass. The wiring they use originally is pretty woeful quality, but can just about handle some clarity coupled to a worthy HU.

I can't remember the size of the drivers in the doors up front, probably 13 or 16cm. I always go for Alpine gear personally, as the quality is great for the money. Just make sure theres enough clearance between the grille of the doorcard and the tweeter mounted in the speaker.

At the rear, IIRC they have 6x4 oval speakers mounted in the parcel shelf mountings. They were available aftermarket a few years ago, but I couldn't be sure now. I personally just use a small sub in the boot with a low pass filter, and a set of components up front. I was lucky in that my car had Kevlar drivers fitted OE, although they would still be too crusty to handle everything. I never bother with rear speakers, as I'm of the opinion when you go to a gig, the sound comes from the front. Just means a st time for rear seat passengers....oh well!

Thanks for that, I put it in on wednesday and it doesn't sound too bad at all so I think I might just leave the standard speakers in.
