Ultima Driver Operating Temperatures

Not much exciting happening here on the Forum, so let me add some other non-exciting info.
Now that winter is approaching the New England States (of North America), temperatures have lowered, and we've had an opportunity to drive the CanAm in less than summer temps.
At this point we have not re-installed the full windscreen, so all observations listed are with small windscreen, and factory heater. All temperatures are F.
Glasses of some sort, and a peaked cap pulled low over the brow are used for all tests.

60' Best temp for shorts, and short sleeve shirt
50' Could still wear short pants, might want a light sweater. No gloves
40' Long pants, sweater with light jacket, heater on low. No gloves
30' Long pants, sweater with turtle neck jacket, heater on high if no sun, no gloves.
Below 30' Hasn't got that cold here yet. I'm sure someone else can fill this in for me.
Note. Be prepared for a lot of strange and sympathetic looks from strangers who don't realize how long you've been waiting for these cooler tempertures.

Hi Jack.

I was out in UK last night I guess temps around +40F. It was quite comfortable using full screen. However slightly foggy and damp so ride was exciting. I was expecting to have the car off the road but still find it can be used. However the day the salt hits the road will result in the garage being locked.

Let us know when you get to leather flying helmet and goggles cos thats what I wear when driving my other kitcar all year round.

Didn't know that they used salt in England too.
Where I live here on the north east coast, if salt is put down in case of snow or ice, it usually warms up in a few days and the rain will wash the salt away. That way, at least once a month, the car can be exercised.
The CanAm is going to be in a big car show in Boston just after the first of the year (indoor), and the small windscreen will be on until after the show. We'll change over to the full screen then.

I don't know if I should say this but, I have ordered a CAN AM and the small screen will not be ordered only full screen.

I think the small screen makes the car look silly

I thought people only put the small screen on to save money.

Interested to know why you would want the small screen

Hi Brian. Its great to see a few passionate veiws on the looks of a Canam. I have used both screens on the Canam and cannot decide which looks best. In fact I like it equally with each. The aeroscreen is just fantastic in hot weather.

They do take a bit longer than the factory suggested 30mins to change.

PS to any builders. Watch the rocker switch positions if placed too high on the side of dash they will interfere with windscreen nuts.

At over $800 US, you're not saving a lot of money!!
Personally, I think the car looks a lot better with the small screen.
Wait till you're driving the car in the middle of summer with the full screen, then ask me why the small screen!!

I am installing Aircon for the very few hot days we get in the UK.

Like I say IMHO I do not like the small screen just wondered what overs thought.

Funny, I think the large screen looks silly. The car doesn't look like a prototype race car with it. I had just the complete oppposite first impression. I do,however, like the way the large screen and soft top look in combination.

To be honest only basing this from the Ultimasports.co.uk website pictures.

As when I went to factory Ted did not have a CAN AM with the full screen on.

We have a load of salt in the winter in the UK. The weather is either wet or cold (so salt). What you find is a lovely sunny winter day but for the previous week the roads had been salted.You have to wait for rain and then way too wet to use the power.

Crazy- I did not see much activity at your place tonight - you are not out in the little shower we have been having over the past couple of hours?

In that case, you'd better plan on hooking up a trailer to carry an A/C compressor large enough to handle the heat!!!

Driven mine in the sub 0c (freezing) temperatures (full screen and hood though) and have had to turn the heater down because it was too hot.

Oh... did I mention that I fitted the little circle vents as in the GTR and they work an absolute treat for getting the air circulating in the cockpit and thus the hot air at bay!

Mine works better in cold weather. Air locks in my cooling system (discussed on previous thread) do not occur with heater valve open - close valve, problem returns. I had a TVR 350i which did exactly the same thing. Looks like hot driver = cool engine and vice versa. Very strange, maybe need swirl pot set higher or something.
