Wrapping exhaust - Any thoughts or experience??

HI, im seriously considering wrapping my exhaust manifolds in order to try to lower under bonnet temps and improve cooling. My car does not run hot, infact it stays at a good temp, but in order to lower under bonnet temps I might wrap the manifolds from the pre-cats right through including the 'y' piece and cat down to the joint with the underside. Has anybody actually tried this and found what the results are like?? Would love to know before I try it. Thanks.

Have you searched the archives? There's been lots of debate on here before about exhaust wrapping and some of the comments have been that it can cause premature corrosion of the manifolds and that it simply moves the heat further down the pipes and under the floor. A two stage cooling fan is probably a better way to keep the under bonnet temps down by ensuing a flow of air before it gets too hot under there.

NO splitter, not that ive seen anyway? Why are they normally positioned? Do they lower under bonnet temps?

Yup, big time. However hot mine gets in traffic it soon drops to about 80 on the open road.

I've used wrap on all my TVR's and providing the manifold is stainless it does the job of reducing underbonnet temps without any detriment.

That said I'd prefer to have the cermachrome as its effective and attractive but its 270 quid vs 40 quid so pay your money and take your choice

It's nothing fancy, it's a piece of aluminium folded at an angle about 3' wide and 3" deep pop riveted under the nose just behind the lower rad air opening. There must be picturs here on Pistonheads, the things are discussed often enough

Having fitted a self-made splitter to my Griff a few weeks ago, I also found that it drops the engine temp signficantly and by a suprising amount. And standstill temp can be effectively managed by adding a fan two speed control system - e.g. Modwise or similar. One or both mods may negate need for more expensive/non-trivial solutions for some people.

I think im going to contact these and enquire how much the splitter is! This along with the mod-wise kit should help the cooling. Im still debating wrapping my manifolds to prevent the under bonnet temps getting too high. My manifolds are stainless and ive noticed there is already a couple of v.small cracks. They don't leak, must be stress fractures or something, so im not sure if wrapping them is responsible for causing these cracks?

They look to me more like an aerodynamic splitter, then a splitter which assists air to flow through the Rad!! Not my cup of tea!!

Mine cost forty quid in total, it gave -10 degrees and killed the lift dead
