Sunroofs and trackdays
Discussion
I have a Mk1 Mr2 which I would like to turn into a trackday special. However, I think I heard or read somewhere that cars with a removable galss sunroof (as mine has) are not allowed on trackdays, or have to remove the sunroof before being allowed on track. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Surely loads of cars have sunroofs, they can't ban them all!
Thanks

So long as the car is roadworthy then there shouldn't be any issue at all with it having a sunroof. You may prefer to wear a full face helmet should the worst happen tho.
edited to add: They do weigh a whole lot though, and many cages can't be fitted around them so that's why lots of people remove them and either fit a new roof skin or simply plate up the hole!

I remember reading convertibles have to drive with the roof up on track (although a bit of canvas and a metal frame isn't going to save your bod) but I'm not sure about sunroofs.
I'm having an MK1 MR2 prepared as a race car by Stoner Racing at the moment (should be going into the workshop very soon, and come out painted like an 1967 Eagle Weslake
) so I would send Mo Stoner an email as he knows the MK1 inside out, and has a good grasp of the track day and racing regs too. He'll definitely be able to point you in the direction, and most probably be able to do the work.

No issue with sunroof or soft tops, I've run my sunroof MR2 with the glass in, open and closed. I've run my eunos 99% of the time with roof down, 1% roof up.
It's only racing where glass above the drivers not allowed i.e. MR2 Championship / Challenge. In these cases people just remove it or weld them up.

I've never had a problem with toplessness on trackdays and whilst it doesn't help aerodynamics it does help aurally. It also gives more helmet clearance, though with a sunroof that might not quite be the case.
(Hey, Cirks, let me know when you're doing any days, it'd be good to catch - so as to speak).
