Went to start the car this morning to be noisy for earlies smile And there is no oil pressure whatsoever

Was ok when I came back from Rockingham on Sunday eve - and don't thing doing 130 + leptons burnt all the oil away yikes

As I have no books at work what are the symptons of a stuck relief valve / broken spring (as can't remember), as this is the first thing I'm thinking to remove this afternoon, before taking the oil pump off

Cheers

If the warning light stays on and nothing registers on the gauge, probably mechanical - as you say, a stuck pressure relief valve. The symptom is just that - no pressure as they tend to stick open. You can access the spring and valve behind one of the large hex-headed covers on the pump, and if the valve drops out, you need to look elsewhere for the fault (e.g. broken drive on the distributor shaft). If the valve does not drop out, you need to remove the pump cover unfortunately.

Good luck

Thought that to be the case

Hopefully a tap wil not it into submission later

Mind you I could actually try and resolve the oil leak round the plate but seem to recall access is a nightmare near the steering rack frown

You can pull the dizzy and spin the oil pump up with an electric drill. You need to buy / make a tool to do this of course, but it's a doddle to do when you have one. Can't remember where I got mine from.

The above would be after you rectify your relief valve problem and would possibly avoid having to dismantle the pump.

Best of luck.

Trying to avoid that as well, I do have a spinner for the oil pump that fits on the drill, but need to people, 1 to spin and one to see if pressure in the car as my arms are not long enough

Only ever needed to do that when I rebuilt whole engine, as normally get away with spinning engin on starter with king lead off

Can't you get Michelle to look at the guage..

You might have a blocked strainer .. you may have used too much silicon during the engine rebuild.

You could take the RH rocker cover off and you'll see oil at the rockers when the pressure is up. At least it's an option.

Well the valve was well and truly stuck, now need to get a new valve and a few gaskets

Anyone know wher you can buy the gaskets for the oil cooler sandwich plate, 1 I'm guessing is the same as an oil filter and the other is some sort of webbing gasket but quite thick ?

This is the most hated job on the wedge in my opinion, as it's a bugger to get off and on, I'd rather take the engine out yikes than do the oil pump

Looking underneath seems to have been leaking more over the last 3 ? years since I last fitted the oil pump housing

Well at least its not a rusty chassis smile

Paul, you don't necessarily need a new valve (unless its badly scored, which is unlikley, since its steel running in an aluminium cover IIRC). In my experience, its the bore that causes the problem, particularly at the point which the valve is visible. The leading edge of the bore can pick-up, causing the valve to stick. Its worth trying to clean up that edge and radius it a bit to prevent it sticking again. Somewhat difficult to describe without pics, and I don't have an old cover lying around.

I know what you mean, but the valve is also scored so probably best to replace and not worry about it for another 4 years smile Good idea on the other bit and might give it a bit more polishing to see if that helps
