Auto gearbox leak

I changed my gearbox about 6 months ago (long story, but the old one was put in without the torque converter properly seated and it stripped the oil drive teeth)
Since then I have had the oil topped once afte3 3K and it now after 6k it seems to be low again (not smooth ger changes). Last time it was down to 1.5liters from the norm of 3l.
Whe I replaced the gearbox, was the an oil seal between the torque converter and the box that I should have changed? Oil seems to be leaking from the bell housing.
