Tony Dron in Octane this month

In the "Cool" issue this month, Tony Dron discusses how a journalist for another magazine fabricates race wins and fails to test cars properly. Does anyone know who this is? I wondered if it was Marcus Pye, as he recently had a feature in Autosport about driving 500 racing cars. Pye is competent, though unspectacular from what I've seen of him. Any other suggestions?

Marcus Pye? Pye has been around for donkeys years and as far as I understood was fairly well regarded. How do you mean by fabricates race wins?

Well, this is why I queried it. Dron says that a journalist from another mag has described driving cars hard, posed with other drivers' laurel wreaths and generally claimed that he's a tip top driver, when in fact is nothing of the sort.

Pye was just my suggestion due to his recent article. I have met the guy and he allowed me to sit in his Chevron B42 some years ago - I have no beef with him at all; just speculating over to whom Dron is referring...

Probably one of the Evo guys.

I remember an article he did for the Daily Telegraph he got tip top treatment from Audi and was allowed to test drive the new R8 in Las Vegas with some freedom. Apparantly Evo had an hour or something and made BS articles which supposedly reknown in the motoring journalism circles.

Well Ive been on a car review with the EVO guys and whilst I have reservations about one of them, they do give themselves chance to test a car properly.
