Another thread from under the bonnet!

My intake pipe that runs into the charger is gradually burning away the fireblanket under the bonnet and this in turn is marking the intake pipe quite badly.

Can I simply remove the fireblanket itself to remove this problem? Or will I risk damaging the paint on the bonnet if the fireblanket isnt their and the temps get too hot, if they would get too hot that is?

Thanks

Mine has been removed with no noticeable side effects, I am also running a 112 like you.

If your intake is burning away the 'fire blanket' you'd have a lot more to worry about.

Its just rubbing, why not just cut away the small part that touches rather than remove the whole blanket.

Magnacharger installation intructions tell you to remove the blanket as one of the first steps. Most people seem to have the "rubbing" issue with the valley mounted chargers, some worse than others. Safe to say there isnt a lot of room under the bonnet when you bolt one in place.

I'm having my engine mounts lowered instead.

Only 5mm or so and Mark is doing it so it's really easy for me . You don't need to remove the engine, you just replace them one at a time while it's on the ramp apparently. It's either that or drive around with the bonnet open. The snout pulley has already worn through the insulation an I'm more worried about it hitting the underside of the metal.

The new torque damper/stiffy should also stop the engine rocking on it's mounts. I'll let you know what difference that makes to traction.

Cats aren't a problem with my Difilippo system, for some reason the exhaust no longer clouts sleeping policemen.

Only a few days left until my beast is finished, without belt slip and the full quota of boost it should be awesome.

Only because we never put it back after the bonnet modifications

It doesn't help that Holden chose not to spray the underside of the bonnet properly. It looks a bit horrible to be honest,

that has to rank as one of the best put downs I've seen on here despite the fact I've got a black Monaro with the BBQ paint. clap
