well I filled mine last year with Royal Purple synthetic gearbox oil so I wouldn't worry about it, you're not alone

Fuchs ATF4000 worked great in my T56, before I upgraded.

I used a mega expensive oil this time around...and TBH, the box doesnt feel any different....although it was also a new box.

But apparently this oil is protectiong things better. ( This one is more along the lines of a normal gear oil )

You dont want to put gear oil in it. We use Royal Purple Syncromax which is a fully synthetic oil, but formulated for gearboxes designed to run on ATF. Is this not what you put in yours Bob? Its not a true "gear" oil.

yep it was the synchromax stuff I used after I read a lot of good reviews of it on the gto forums. I knew you guys were using Royal Purple or Redline oils for most of the cars you were working on as well so figured it must be half decent stuff and I did notice a smoother change. Also had them fill it up using the hole for the sensor on top of the box as apparently if you use the "proper" fill hole you only get it about 3/4 full. Wasn't aware that it wasn't as you say a proper "gear" oil though - see you learn something new everyday on here
