What colour for the chassis, that is.

My faithful wedge has had it's last blast for this year and has now come off the road for a bit of winter TLC (first winter without it for 2 years - i'm missing it already )

Anyway, one of the major projects is the chassis (I feel for you, Waynester) but I can't decide what colour to finish it off in. Bright red was my first thought, but then again it could be yellow to match the Spax shocks !!

The car itself is a dark slate grey with a navy blue roof.

Anyone else used colour on the chassis to good effect?

Hi Arcturus, i bought a big tin of red Hammerite as the car is red. Now that i have finished removing oil, rust and flaky underseal it's being painted white. (original colour) As this still covers 90% of the chassis.
Thought it would look better + not show so vividly any missed bits!!
Good luck (you need it, if mine is anything to go by)

Wayne.

Yeah [pic] www.fotango.com/p/eba00372687f00000001.jpg [/pic]

My chassis was originally white anyway so no colour change.

Use a colour that will contrast with rust... so you can see potential problems quickly and easily...

That colour car it's got to be a black chassis, unless you want it to look like a pigs ear...

My red chassis works well because it contrasts with the blue body. I'm not convinced it would work on a slate grey body.

However, a slightly different approach and you could go for a blue chassis as it will emphasise the blue in the slate grey (assuming it's a blue/grey rather than grey/grey). Royal Blue might look excellent

Presumably it was either red or white to begin with - wouldn't think white would look too bad, and as mentioned by Podie, the lighter the colour the easier to spot potential problems.

Yet again deeply impressed by your 400 Andy - you entered any concours events?

It will have been black to begin with; they didn't start doing fancy colours until 1989/90 then red, white and yellow came out.

A company I was working for was taken over by FIAT. The engineers visiting the factory looked at the chassis and asked why they were black. After some startled exchanges it was decreed that they should be brown. The Italians were asked why and the explanation was that the rust does not show. The proud response was that the chassis did not rust.
Ah came the response but when you start using Italian steel they will . . . . .

Ah yes - it would help if I pay attention

How about the same colour as the car?

Unusual to say the least. Are you sure that it's original?

Yep, if they launched coloured chassis in '89 it fits in that they do a trial one at the previous motor show. Remember that your car is exceptional Steve.

I have an 83 Tasmin 200 and the chassis is grey. I hate to say it but I think these were just before the powder coating was brought in house and if mine is anything to go by are far better than later ones.....getting ready to duck.

I have the entire service record so have no reason to believe that it has ever had a body off

Fair enough. So it looks like there was a batch of grey ones in 1983. With TVR I hate to think why.
