The test reports I've read for the VXR8s all say that the top speed is limited to 155mph. Is this true and if so how easy is it to de-limit the car?

I don't know if its true, but if it is I suspect its very easy to remove with the right software. The trick will be finding someone in the UK with the software though.

I suspect something like EFI Live or HP Tuners would be able to do and as they sell the VKR8 as a Pontiac in the States then you should be able to buy the software yourself, although it is a bit pricey just to remove a limiter, but handy if you plan on other mods.

Yes there is a limiter.

VXR Phantom`s your man for this one as he`s had problems with the limiter even after it was removed.
(Apparently its a little onion like )

I'm surprised it's set as high as that... if I got caught doing 90MPH on the freeway here I would lose my licence and the car mad

Yes, simple single value change in efilive or Im guessing HPT.
If it didnt work with HPT then it could be a bug. These things happen. Either the BCM and or ECU are responsible for limiting stuff on the VXR8. So it could just be a minor change someone has overlooked.

Be careful removing limiters.

It's damn hard to get a car comfortable at low speed but still have high speed (as in 160+) stability as they generally requires solutions that compromise the other.
This is why cars are limited - it makes the problem go away and designers can concentrate on the easy side without having to worry that the car can hit 170+.

The throttle is a good limiter and traction control device IMO.
Anyway I dont think Ive removed my limiter either. No point. As long as it doesnt restrict my 400M time, which Im sure it wont.

The problem was not the speed limiter.

Yeah, the cops are a bit harsh over there. Apparently if you get caught doing over 100MPH you get transported to England! wink

BTW The last time I was in Tas I got nicked speeding in my Aunt's 1.4 Astra automatic. The cop was not amused when I told him I deserved a bloody medal!

I was in my nearest Vauxhall approved Monaro dealer last Saturday having it serviced... While i was waiting, i read a review on the VXR8 Bathurst (they also had one in the showroom, a bit naff with the black stripes that didnt meet under the boot spoiler) Anyway, im sure the review said that it was limited to 130mph??? I thought that it was a bit OTT and a lot gay but reading this thread it may have read right... Fine if you want to keep your license but no good on a trackday!!! Whats the point of all those horses and not putting them to their full potential???? confused

130mph was typo!! Anyway simple answer is yes limiter can be removed. My problem was some other algorithm that thought the car was going to disintegratebiggrin Thanks to the man that can for sorting it, just got to wait for next trip to brunters.

Thanks for the replies. I assume that any of the reputable remapping companies could do this?

Find a helpful chap with EFI live and ask them nicely, it looks pretty simple, the default is 250 KMH, click the image link below to see my modified tune file with the limit raised.

Trouble is it would cost another license to re-flash the ECU. So even if they were nice, it's still gonna cost about 75 squid.

Why would someone only post once every 10months?
