from Boxster to 111s
Discussion
Morning troopers,
Anyone ever done this before? Be interested in their views.
Used to have a 987 (2.7) but had to get shut unfortunately, been driving golf gttdi for over a year now and have funds to get a proper driving car once again. Have taken both the 111s and 111r out and love them both, would prefer the R but bit too steep prob have £14-15k to spend so will have to go for the k series. Fell in love with the handling from day one compared to the porker, just hope i can live with the refinement (or lack of!)
Anyway, nice to meet you all.

I chose a 111S over a Boxter S and a 111R, having driven all three.
I found the 111S more usable on the road (legally) and somehow better. Fitted with induction and exhaust I think it sounds better than the 111R (actually I think it sounds better than my 4.3 BV TVR Griffith).
It's lighter than the 111R which might account for something, but I'm not sure I can put my finger on it. No doubt it's slower round a track, but I just prefer it on the road to the R.
The Boxter was frankly lardy and unispiring in comparison. In isolation I've no doubt it was wonderful, but it didn't stand up to the task of back-road thrills like the Elises.

I went from a 2.7 Boxster to my current Exige S. It really depends what you expect of the Elise, the Lotus will put a bigger smile on your face and they are worlds apart when it comes to feel and chuckability. My Boxster felt lardy and unresponsive after driving a Lotus but a lot more comfortable and practical.
Performance wise the 111S will probably feel quicker up to a ton but obviously you wont be expecting the same lovely howl that you get from the flat six although an exhaust/induction can make it sound nice. If you want more of a drivers car the Lotus will not dissapoint.

thanks guys, some great info there. Yes i worried i may miss the flat six throatiness but was planning on a larini and induction kit to beef up the 111s which sounds lovely just idling.
It's fair to say that running costs will be noticeably different than that of the boxster? TOENHEAL?

Yes definetly if you used Porsche dealers in the past. Im lucky that my dad is an ex service manager so a lot of work can be done ourselves which has saved me thousands over the years. Larini and induction will sound very nice It's fair to say that running costs will be noticeably different than that of the boxster? TOENHEAL?

So i'm looking for a 111s, pref black with air con & elec windows. Around an 03 plate for about £14k.....have been looking for sometime though
hey ho worth the wait eh? Elise is a lot more fun but do bear in mind that the Elise is trickier to drive on the limit than the Boxster. (Elise's weight distribution and steering lock are both not as good as the Porsche and unless you buy a fairly modern Elise, there's no traction control (nor ABS until the 111R models) so it's worth taking it carefully in the wet and exploring the limits of grip away from the public roads.
The Elise did top the most written-off sportscar table for a fair while.
